my advice is unless you are very patient or just love tinkering you should go with plug and play or you might get put off :)

This is my build spec, not saying its perfect but it does work:

Spidex and BL gimbal Euro 254 say about 211

Naza M V2 bundle http://quadcopters.co.uk/dji-naza-m-v2-flight-controller-inc-gps-721-p.asp 312

4 x  http://quadcopters.co.uk/torxpower-2216-pro-short-shaft-brushless-motor-800kv-125-p.asp 116

4 x http://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/multi-rotor/multirotor-motors-and-esc/22a-multi-rotor-esc-simonk-rapidesc.html 56

2 x http://www.electricwingman.com/power/propellers/apc/slow-fly/10x4.7.aspx 5

2 x http://www.electricwingman.com/product.aspx?product=1184 8

To power this I use a 4S 3-5000 MAh battery.

I also fitted a simple OSD and power supply but if you get the above Naza I would add the new mini iOSD from DJI http://quadcopters.co.uk/dji-iosd-mini-909-p.asp for 50

All up 758. Told you it was not cheap, have you got a GoPro3? If not another 280 plus a lead from Randall http://www.fpvhub.com/index.php/topic,15103.msg127088.html#msg127088

Scared even more now?

The setup of the Naza is easy, plenty of advise on here, it works out the box. The Spidex is easy to build and the BLG works out the box. You will get support on this forum, no matter what you choose.

Mick

PS don't let her indoors see this summary......one box at a time.....

Mick

This is nearly the same spec as mine. The differences are.

Torxpower 2216 900kv motors http://quadcopters.co.uk/torxpower-2216-pro-short-shaft-brushless-motor-900kv-v2-330-p.asp

Hobbyking blueseries esc 30a http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__13429__HobbyKing_30A_BlueSeries_Brushless_Speed_Controller.html

RCTimer props

ImmersionRC 5.8Ghz Audio/Video Transmitter  http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__17507__ImmersionRC_5_8Ghz_Audio_Video_Transmitter_FatShark_compatible_600mw_.html

Securitycamera2000 fpv camera

Hobbyking 3-Channel FPV Video Switcher http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__29651__Hobbyking_3_Channel_FPV_Video_Switcher.html

You could get a Naza M Lite instead of a Naza M V2 and save 172

I did have it flying with an Adrucopter APM2.5 for a while but it takes a bit more to time configure.

Very last question .... why won't the HD3 Gimbal work with the Discovery body ????

I'm interested to hear the answer BUT that said I think I'm going to go with the F450.

Reasons

It's my 1st build and I'd like something with lots of knowledge / support available.

No one's knocked it and said it's a rubbish product ...... maybe there's slightly better layouts but they come at a cost which at the moment would pay for a new TX / other bits / FPV.

If it works for me and becomes a more serious hobby / something to earn a bit of pocket money (I'm under no illusions you can make a lot of money out of this and have another business) I'd probably upgrade anyway and in which case I'd maybe make the 450 into my ...... fly it hard and have fun platform with everything else stripped off of it, maybe tale the Naza with GPS out (which could go in the upgrade) and just put in a simpler controller and fly it in manual mode.

A big thank you to everyone for their input really has been appreciated!!!

The zenmuse gimbal needs to be mounted on the base and the disco isn't designed to have legs / gear and They Would sort of defeat the point of the disco anyway :)

The F450 comes with a set of legs and as the arms for the disco are the same couldn't you use the legs on the disco and mount it underneath.
I get what you're saying about the looks and it'd be better without legs but just from a praticallity point of view it'd give you a larger platform that's easier to work on / place your FPV gear ????????

I think you're misunderstanding :)

The F450 and Disco are very different once assembled... Yes the disco uses the same F450 arms and electronics but the 'main body plates' are completely different.. The legs fix to the plates on the F450 so they wont attach to the disco.

The F450 is a traditional quad copter (you would normally attach a landing gear and gimbal to the base) where as the Disco is a 'dead-cat' layout which is designed to be low profile, the front arms are wide to allow for the camera on the nose and the tail long to allow for larger batteries to counter-balance the camera (to keep the CG)...

So by mounting the camera on the bottom and adding landing gear you completely fudge the CG and go against the whole purpose of a 'dead-cat' configuration.

And the F450 doesn't come with legs, they are an optional extra if you want to fit the DJI Zenmuse gimbal :)

This is what you need:

DaveyLC, I get where you're coming from with your last reply just really needed to get it straight in my head that I was doing the right thing and had looked at all the options!!!!!

I've ordered the DJI F450 bundle today, worst case scenario if I do want to upgrade to the disco pro in the future I've got most of the bits which without a bundled deal the Naza 2 would be 312 alone and I'm sure I could sell the 2nd hand  HD3 Gimbal for 150 approx so to me for now it seemed like a bit of a no brainer to be able to try without too much of an outlay initially.

Once again thanks to all for your input has been much appreciated!!!!
