Wise move IMO ET. I took mine off. I hardly ever upload anything and is the best part of 70 to get smashed up on a maiden or two while things are trimmed out. I'll be leaving mine off I think.

I've got a propan 2 to be mounted but that won't be happening for a month or two until I am confident with chucking the MT 99%.

Great looking build. Good luck.

Cheers Snooze,
I like this plane already...With my 5200 4S as far forward as possible, I can get her a bit nose heavy..?...just in front of the servo wires....I was hoping to do initial flights on a lighter Lipo.....Oh well...
My next MT is getting the EsC further forward, so this Lighter Lipo becomes an option for me...
Where is the ideal C of G anyway..?...Its so unlike convention with it on the wires.....Looks so nose heavy...
Normally, the C of G for a conventional plane is approx 2/3rds of wing chord, on the servo wires seems well nose heavy..?
  What is the general consensus..?

       :vulture:
I had no end of failed launches. I'm flying a 4s 8000mah. I had worked out the CG to 8.33cm or something like that. But was then advised to have it on the servo wires. The last 2 launches have been without issue. Full throttle, level throw.

I've got an MFD in mine, fpv cam 2ubecs, 1.3 vtx and ezuhf out on the wings.

As I understand it, Cruz will give a heading and height lock 0.5 seconds after engaging, perfect for maintaining a constant altitude...thats what I want....My question is, what happens if you close the throttle...?..especially if I have no ASI installed...?
Sounds a bit like PA Mode on the Storm AP.

Snooze....Good to hear you can launch with your 8000mah 4S....my 5200mah should be no problem then...:)

Cruz engages only when you have left the sticks alone for more than half a second. Works pretty well as long as you got the plane trimmed correctly. You set the min and max throttle settings on the main "basic settings" page. I think I set mine to 12 mps min and 25 max. The standard settings will or should be fine though. Don't set the max to more than what the aircraft can fly. People wonder why the aircraft nose dives on RTL.

I use a 5000mAh 3s, you'll be fine ET.

 Hi m8,
Ok, I corrected the reversed Ailerons ok and have now got Cruise Mode programmed into the APM.....easy enough.
So, I tested it, while Cruz is engaged, I have reduced Aileron throws and no control over the elevators. Seems rather odd, but I suppose it works ok. Im assuming the AP is watching the altitude and only works the elevators if it sees an altitude change?

Not exactly sure what the APM does to altitude if you hit RTH....Im assuming it retains current altitude if it's above a certain height, and only climbs if it's stupidly low when you engage it?
Then, when it gets to the home position, only then does it reduce altitude during Loiter?...not sure how?

There is little specific information about each Flight Mode about what / how / when it does stuff....I will find out soon enough I think....I can always switch back into Manual...lol

Love the little Talon, it seems so purposeful and such a convenient size....When I build my spare one, Im going to try and make it a lighter version so it will take a smaller, lighter Lipo setup.
If the APM Mini works ok, I will get another one, but next time with a smaller better GPS and Compass......Do I even need a compass..?  Why do I need a Compass when the GPS is showing direction?

If you get blown backwards by a strong head wind a compass will give the true heading over the gps.
But I guess it would have to be a strong wind to blow a MT backwards

Hi Brucey,
I think you are right, my Aeromax and GPS is a tiny bit vague about direction unless its moving and I think the Storm is even worse because it too has no compass.
The GPS I got with my Aeromax OSD was great though, very small and capable of linking with as many as 16 Sats...Im wondering if it will hook up to the APM...?
The Omnibus F4 looks interesting if it can be made to work reliably, very small, onboard osd , amp counter...small GPS....Whats not to like...?....INAV..?

If your planes going backwards into wind, you are in real trouble if thats where home is..lol

Yeah gps can't tell it's heading unless it's moving.

The elevators do not move in Cruz mode, only when it's flying and the aileron throws are reduced. If you set it to 90 meters it will fly 90 meters from your home / takeoff alt. In RTL the place will climb up or sink down to its programmed alt. When it's home it will circle over you. I think the circle settings are 60 meters standard. This is fine for the MT.

I was under the impression that engaging Cruz, simply maintained current heading and altitude...?....I definately dont want it going to some altitude which has been programmed in...?
Anyway, I will be trying it soon...soon as the weather plays ball...:)

It will stay at the height you put in. If you have telemetry then you can change its height as you fly along.

"It will stay at the height you put it in"....Do you mean stay at the same height you are at when you engage Cruise Mode maybe...?

Why would I want to change this height as I fly along via Telemetry...?...I have Manual Mode to do that...?

Say for example you set your cruise alt to 150 meters, you can launch the plane and switch straight to cruise. The plane will climb until it reaches 150 meters and stay there. You dont really need a TX to fly a plane if you have apm / pix with telemtry. You can fly it from a laptop if you want to go completely autonomous.

Just been reading the APM Plane Docs about Flight Modes....Cruise Mode is good, but I wish it wasnt associated with a predetermined target altitude...It would be nice if you could opt to stay at the same height it was when you engaged it...Illogical really IMO.
