Peculiar Ezuhf RSSI issue
« on: January 23, 2017, 12:16:10 AM »

Just throwing it out there. It's not so much a problem. More of a curiosity. I do not plan on using rssi on future flights but ...

I had rssi set up correctly on ch8 on my RX, it was also set up correctly in the vector software and the wizard run. My gain adjust knob is set to Chan 7 in the taranis.

But today on my maiden I noticed on the ground my rssi was 7. I thought this was wrong, put it down to some sort of oddity. I did a range check. All OK. I chucked the talon up, tested rth. All OK. I had no signal issues. I adjusted my stability gain nob and noticed the rssi value change. Adjusting the stab gain knob works as normal but it also changes my rssi value. It reads 7 at center position and goes up in value if I turn the knob either way.

I'm on ezuhf firmware 1.53 and the latest vector software.

Like I said. Not too fussed but it's niggling me why and thought it might get some grey matter simulated.

Cheers

Have you checked the molex connector inside the Vector unit hasn't come loose?

If that's OK, then the molex connector inside the EzUHF might have been accidentally unplugged.

Funny you should mention that Blue. I'll give them a poke with a savoury pork based snack and report back.

Hi Snooze,

Have you checked your Taranis programming..?...You may have mixed ch7 and 8 together somehow...?

Hi ET
It turned out to be something to do with my input and mix setup 😳. I had mirrored the inputs on the mix setup. I ended up not wanting the rssi anyway and I've since got rid of the vector and have a full MFD ap and aat setup. Which has been a whole new learning curve! The MFD isn't as forgiving as the vector.

Hi Snooze,

That's what it sounded like to me m8....TBH, the Inputs and Mixers are the one thing that confuse me a bit too. Surprised you dumped the Vector in favour of the MFD....why do you need a Tracker?

If i didn't have the support of this forum everything (and lots of 1 on 1 with BF 😚) the hobby as a whole would still be confusing me 😉

Why the tracker? Why not 😉. I had a dodgy ducky on my 1.2 vtx and already owned a PCB Yagi. I got frustrated trying to hold a straight course for the yagi or manually pan the tripod. It's a worry i didn't need. Plus it's something else to learn and gain experience from.

Hi Snooze,

Im surprised, because the little 1275 mhz PCB Yagi has a very wide field of view, works out to the sides even. As long as you are generally in front of it, it will work fine..... Or are you flying at extreme range?

Yes it does have a wide FOV but sometimes I just lose myself in the moment and end up flying out of it. I just don't want the hassle. Being half way to my PFCO qualification it wouldn't be professional to fly BVLOS now would it......

Same here when I flew out to 5k+ regularly. I would set off in a certain direction, but either the wind or my curiosity would set me off in a completely different way without me fully realising it.

In those circumstances (which was most of the time) it's just nice having that safety net of a really strong signal ALL the time without having that extra thing to concern oneself with.
