I'm thinking of going for a similar configuration to the TBS Caipirhana and having the Rx and VTx mounted on the wings.. Might be a bit ambitious but I am sure I'll find a way to crap it all in and I've got a nice rig for cutting holes and cavities into foam :D

It's definitely possible, I reckon I could easily build one with a full AP if I were to do it again. But the type of plane it is doesn't really lend itself to having an AP/Stabiliser on board.

It's more for the OSD, Home Position and potentially RTH if I needed to recover: works out an awful lot cheaper than me buying the GPS for a TBS Core Pro. The cost of a FC, GPS, Current Sensor is around 50 and the TBS GPS 75 aha.

I reckon it'll be in manual mode most the time :) Also if it all goes well I'll put the same kit into a bigger wing for 'range testing' aha

I put an AP in my Falcon as insurance too. I never user stabilised or anything like that, I fly manual all the time... but I like having RTH for the odd occasion where I push it a bit too far and lose video signal. Oh and occasionally I use loiter for a break  :)

Hey Blue.
I noticed you soldered the motor wires directly to the ESC without bullets.
Did you shorten the motor wires? If so, how did you re-tin the remaining wire?
I just did mine and had a devil of a job re-tinning the enamelled motor wires - what's the trick?

Cheers Benito.
I tried that and it seemed to sort of work, but not as easily as in that video.
After I tried that, I used a gas soldering iron set to silly hot, and the combination of the two did the trick, but it was a struggle.
Thanks bud.

Are you using the same motor? I didn't have any issues tinning my motor wires after cutting off the bullets

Yes. The same one from the HK ME163.
I cut them down very short and was left with about 8 strands in each of the 3 phases, with very tough enamel covering that was a real begger to remove. Cut down well below the original tinning.
Managed eventually, but was not fun !

I've seen somewhere that you can apparently use asprin to treat the enamel wire to make it easier to tin.

From here: https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/53028/how-to-remove-enamel-from-wire

Quote
Get a pill of aspirine. Put your enameled wire on its surface and press it down with a soldering iron's tip heated by operational temperature. Aspirin melts, boils, gets in contact with enamel and desintegrates its coating on wire's copper. So you can strip it with the same soldering iron's tinned tip pretty easily in a couple of seconds (up to 10 sec in fact). Then let it cool down for a several seconds and remove the brittle (like a colophony) melted aspirine's rests away from naked and tinned enameled wire's tip... Do not breath in the aspirine smoke.

Cheers Blue, the Aspirin thing sort-of worked.
But I wasn't sure all of the strands were tinned nicely, so I attacked it with a REALLY hot gas iron, and that removed the remains of the varnish and gave me a nice shiny joint.
Happy days now.
