ImmersionRc 600mw voltage out?
« on: May 11, 2017, 09:25:43 PM »

My VTX is being a tool!

I just got loads of stuff sorted on my built, but my immersionRc 600mw Vtx is only pushing out 4.8v on the camera out.

Is it fried? I have only run it off a dedicated 6v bec, always had an antenna fixed too.

Options?

Hi
I think the voltage out is only 5 volts on that VTX

It is, I read it thinking the fact it was only doing 4.8v instead of 5v was the issue.  Now I don't know - WHat are you expecting out of it ClippedWing ?

I would say there is probably nothing wrong with it, it's only 0.2v

Agreed. 4.8 is nearly 5.
Are you measuring with the camera attached? If so, the measurement will include any V drop due to the load and the drop in the wires (depending on where you are measuring).
Whether your camera is happy with 4.8 is another matter - most spec 5 to 20 something Volts, but might really mean 5.0 and not 4.8.
I would play safe and use a 6V BEC to give you a warm safe feeling as you fly...
Just my 2p worth...

I'm taking the reading with no camera so 4.8v with out a load. With camera attached it whines (the camera) and drops to 4.1v

I measured a old immersionRc 250mw and no load it was 5.5v with the same camera it worked fine and it was 5.2v stable.

I'm quickly loosing faith in immersionRc equipment. Having owned alot of it, it always lets me down at some point.

Tim's going to lend me a 600mw tomorrow so I will check to see what it should be!

Another 60 down the drain and I'm pissed because I have built my skywalker around immersionRc equipment!

Life...
I've had other VTX that can't supply 5V to a 1170 camera cos of the current draw..
Just use a seperate 6V 3A BEC and your life will be happy and full of great flights .. :P

The reason it wont work for you, is because you are trying to use a 6vdc BEC to run it..

Feed it with a 12vdc 3S voltage and all will be good.   The 5vdc Camera output of this vtx is generated via an onboard switched mode psu....It needs a 12vdc supply....not a 6vdc switched mode BEC supply.

I have the exact same one, brilliant, never let me down for years, and I use the 5 vdc output just like you are.

I don't use immersion anymore for exactly the reason you saif.

At some point guaranteed without any reason they have all let me down and at times cost me planes. So I ditched the immersion gear.

I still use the immersion 2.4GHz transmitters for now though. So far no failures......

I will try just running off the 4s Flight pack then, it has worked off the same set up before (its all the same components).
I was slightly wrong, i am using a UBEC not a BEC  :P

As English Turbines says, put 12v through it.

Success!

12v made no difference, 14v made no difference..

It was a bloody dry solder joint on one of the pads! Bloody thing!

All working now, thanks for everyone's help!
