Here we go again
« on: May 19, 2017, 12:30:25 PM »

It appears that London City airport will be getting a remote air traffic control system. What could possibly go wrong? That apart the article jumps on the anti-drone bandwagon.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39960993

"Unlike the old tower, the new system will allow controllers to zoom in for a better view and put radar data onto the screen to track aircraft.
BBC transport correspondent Richard Westcott says a critical new safety feature means the cameras will be able to pick out rogue drones near the airport, as well as light the runway at night."

As regards "Unlike the old tower, the new system will allow controllers to zoom in for a better view......", it would appear that the BBC is unaware of the tried, tested and cyber attack proof Mk1 eyeball and binoculars. In fact I would hazard a guess that the old tower has several pairs of eyeballs and sets of binoculars, none of which are hackable.

As regards "...a critical new safety feature means the cameras will be able to pick out rogue drones..." We currently have face recognition so do we now have rogue drone recognition? How does it differentiate between rogue drones and rogue seagulls or the dreaded rogue supermarket bags? I must get one.

Just like any political statement, throw in a few choice words and you've sold it to the great unwashed. OK cynical rant, but we still appear to be target of the year.

cyber attack proof, that's good, I have seen them on TV, its a real risk.
