US court rules against FAA's drone registry
« on: May 20, 2017, 01:25:15 AM »

https://techcrunch.com/2017/05/19/a-federal-appeals-court-shoots-down-the-faas-drone-registry-requirement/

And the moral of the story is, if you're going to make laws, do your homework first.

I'm all for sensible rules, we all Know and hopeful understand why we should not fly in built up areas and airports, lets hope this paranoia of quad's will tern a corner. how a country like America, can want a plastic toy restricted so much, when thy still want there right to have a gun in the house, that can then easily get in to the wrong hands, is beyond me.
at last in this case it seems there is a sensible view in government.
after all, if you look to the sky's in are biggest city's, the biggest dangers are carrying a hundred people over your head.

This is just a technicality really though, they'll redraft it all and push it right back through I bet.

It's a legal challenge based on earlier legislation :

The court argued that the drone registration database violates 2012’s FAA Modernization and Reform Act, which states that the body, “may not promulgate any rule or regulation regarding a model aircraft.”

The next argument centres around the definition of a model aircraft which was pivotal to Trappy's encounter with the FAA.

The really amazing thing for me is that such an aviation conscious country as the USA has no proper regulations about model aircraft, merely recommendations which don't even fill an A4 sheet. And as regards posing a danger, their Second Amendment takes some beating. It is an anachronistic piece of legislation brought in during the days of private militias before they had national armed forces.

And the fight continues.
Ignore the "No More Foreign" bit and you will see that these guys are trying hard to make the FAA see sense. Considering they are relative newcomers they are really showing up the AMA for its toothless approach.

I think the no more foreign bit was because dji are lobbying for the reintroduction of the legislation. Thanks for the info
