SPRacing F3 Bootloader problem
« on: October 05, 2017, 12:36:47 PM »

Can anyone help me sort a coms problem on Uart 1 of a SPRacing F3 controller...
when I was trying to set up a GPS I switched Uart 1 to off in beta flight and saved the settings,
this resulted in loss of USB to Betaflight coms, I am unable to re-flash as it says unable to contact bootloader.
I have tried all the usual thing on you-tube but they just make it worse because links, software and versions are different to what are available now, I would imagine I am not the first to do this  :(
any help would be well and truly welcomed,

Regards Ray

When you say "all the usual things" what is that.  You should be able to short the boot pins, power it on and then reflash the board (with no reboot sequence enabled).  Is this what you did ?  When you do power on with the boot pins shorted, it will give a different LED display - sometimes you might think you have them, but you don't so look for that.

Hi CurryKitten
Once I set Uart 1 to off both the blue is solid and the red flashes regardless of if the bootloader pins are shorted or not at power up, from what I have read and watched on T'internet I think I have switched off the coms port and the ability to connect in anyway to the board, I was hoping this may have a quick fix solution, I have tried zadig and STM software but no luck in getting the bootloader to accept anything

I've got a duff SPRacing f3 board here (gyro chip failed) so I'll disable UART1 on it and then see if I can get it back again (just grabbing some lunch first)

Much appreciated  :)
it was only when i unplugged it after saving and tried to make changes that it wouldn't connect, it could be a duff board but all was good until i started trying to alter the Uart port settings for the GPS,

Cheers for any help

Has windows done any updates on your machine recently?

One of the recent ones has a known issue of messing up USB drivers. I have seen the exact same problem you are having only a few days ago. We sorted it by re-installing the relevant drivers.

Might be worth a try :)

Hi Dave
its the same on laptop and chrome book  :(

Just remembered that Uart 1 can only be turned off IF another Uart is made active according to what i read.

Cheers

Hmm, well sadly my board is too dead to speak to normally, so I can't disable UART1, although I could still flash it with the boot pins shorted.  Disabling the UART should have no impact when you short the bootloader pins though - it's kind of the point of why you can boot like this

Many thanks for checking it out  :)
I agree completely about the boot pins...
it was in a Painless360 vid he made comment about not switching off Uart 1 as it disables the usb com link,
booting it should put fire back into it.
I have opened a ticket with Banggood so no doubt I will have to make a video of it not working  :+

Just had a thought....

Have you got anything else connected to the board when you are trying to access the bootloader?
If you have, it may be seeing that first and if it is, it will think its the coms.

Hi Dave

Nothing was connected when trying to access the bootloader via the USB link,
It did connect twice, the second time I had the gps connecter, GPS powered up 👌 and I was changing uart settings and that's when it went pear shaped.... I think it's short life FC
