Micromimosd micro .... broken osd layout
« on: November 07, 2017, 11:23:58 PM »

Hi fellas
On CK's advice I bought a micromimosd, great shout btw. All has gone well so far but the osd output to goggles looks nothing like the sample on the config chrome extension app. For example the GPS data and home arrow is sort of jumbled up or chopped off to the sides of the screen. I've ensured I'm set to PAL on the osd settings.

Any pointers please?
Thanks
P

I've seen that before - it's when the fonts don't get uploaded correctly.  Try connecting it back up with FTDI and reload the font pack of your choosing - see if that sorts it out.

Thanks Wayne. Appreciated. I'll give it a go.

Oh and while I've got you ... Is there a specific reason why on your video of how to set up the osd with a GPS that you power the GPS by an independent 5v and not use the 5v pin on the osd? I've wired the GPS directly to the 5v next to the tx pin.

Cheers

No, I just don't think I'd thought about it.  I keep trying to build a little FPV pod which will have a micro Cam/VTX, the OSD and the GPS and when looking at that thought I would use the 5v on the board.  Certainly no reason not to use it

Thanks. I just wondered if the GPS might perhaps draw too much current and burn the board out but had seen pictures of the GPS drawing power from osd .... so was a tad confused after seeing your video. Which was a great help otherwise. Thank you.

Hi Wayne
I'm making some progress with the microosd.

It seems the osd info wasn't displaying correctly/broken icons on my goggles/fpv monitor because it's outside the edges of my goggles display !?! It seems that the mwosd chrome app osd GUI isn't a true reflection of the actual resolution that the osd will be output to?

Also, once the GPS is enabled am I correct in thinking I can't make changes within the mwosd app. For some reason the ftdi adapter won't connect once gps had been enabled?

Thanks

Yeah - there seems to be some overscan on screens, so if you place everything at the absolute corners of the possible display you'll see stuff disappearing off the edges.  Often the case the the bottom is too low and the top is too high.

I can't remember if the OSD layout on MWOSD takes into account the difference in resolution between PAL/NTSC.  Betaflight doesn't, so on an NTSC camera the stuff starts going missing about 2/3rds of the way down !

I'm sure I made changes after I enabled the GPS - obviously the GPS uses the tx/rx pins that the FTDI interface would need, so you can't connect both at once (but I assume you aren't doing that)  Let me know if it's not happening - I know the GPS is enabled in this bunch of parts in a bag, so I can check if I can connect to it still.

Thanks for the great explanation Wayne. I'll change to PAL and stay moving stuff around until I get things spot on. Also I couldn't think of why the ftdi failed to read from the osd after enabling the GPS ... as you mention already the RX and tx are still the same. And no, I want trying to connect GPS and ftdi at the same time 👍

Thanks

Nice one CK. All working as it should. The GPS takes a good minute or so to get lat long on screen. Bit I'll cope seeing as it all cost a tenner!

Thanks for the help

I had the same issue with the OSD items not appearing exactly where they should too on my Aeromax Navigator setup.

I just initially set them inboard and then progressively move them out to the edges until it's all where I want it. Even on the Omnibus F4 FC, the OSD item placement isn't perfect, it depends what Camera you are using.
I seem to remember the Home direction arrow needed a bias to the left for it to appear centred over the cross hair for example.

We'll just as I get everything set right and working on the micromimosd I decide to be a smart arse and device to test what current it draws ...... had a brain fart moment and fried it!

What a f„¢kwit I am! My hopes and dreams will now have to take another 3 weeks on the slow boat to arrive 😣
