Wanhao I3 Plus
« on: December 05, 2017, 12:50:06 PM »

I've also joined the 3D printing revolution with a new Wanhao I3 Plus. I believe this is a clone of the Prusa I3, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :)  Picked it up on Black Friday with a 10% discount from TechnologyOutlet.co.uk

So far really impressed with it. I remember when people used to buy printers they would come as just a box of bits that needed to be assembled.  This has 4 bolts to attach the tower to the base, plug in some cables that are labelled and that's it!  You just need to level the print bed and you're ready to roll, my first test print came out perfectly.

I'm keen to find things to print now so if anyone knows must print items please let me know!  Also trying to get my head around Fusion 360 and design a ground station to replace my foam bodged one.

I am just getting my head round Fusion 360. Steep learning curve but what a fantastic programme. I have already designed and printed things for around the house and more importantly for my planes.
I was using Tinkercad, which is great for average stuff but for more precise objects its, Fusion 360. I watched lots of Youtube videos on it and followed some tutorials.

My first design, similar to a HC44 mount but designed myself a lot smaller and with rear entry lol

Great first design - especially given the learning curve of Fusion... I think my first "design" was a square and I managed to cock that up as well

I have the same printer, had it for ages now. Ive put longer bearings in got rid of the thin stock carriage plate and cut my own out of 4mm aluminium.
Replaced the hotend with a microswiss. Replaced the firmware with a 3rd party one. If you don't have any glass buy some to print on.
Its a good solid printer, i use mine constantly works fine out the box with no mods but can be improved with mods.

I agree it's a steep learning curve but seems a hell of a lot more intuitive than when I tried to use Sketchup

Cool, mine is still stock so far apart from the glass bed I bought with the printer. Having one or two issues with the ends of prints curling up, warping I presume. The bed temp is set to 50 but the glass seems to be getting very hot so wondering if that is the issue

The filament is probably cooling down to fast, causing the edges to lift due to contraction as it cools try turning the fan speed down, print with a raft or brim, get yourself some 3dLac which works a treat
