New Build - Frame Type

Having purchased a cheap HK 250 set up to start FPV flying a couple of months ago, thought I would now build a second quad from scratch to improve both performance and build quality. Any recomendations as to a 250 size frame? Thinking something with a bit of colour would be a distinct advantage.

Iím not sure about the robocat frames but I have build one if these https://rotorbuilds.com/build/4923

The frame has been bombproof whilst learning to fly acro   ;) LOS the frame was only 18gbp from banggood, and I used their 6quid racerstar 2205 motors.

A lot of it just depends on what gear you're trying to fit on there eg an HD cam for recording footage and if so which one etc? 

I just put a quad together for my brother and since it's been an aeon in mini quad terms since I built mine (18 months or so) I just looked on Joshua Bardwell's list here:


There was no need for anything fussy that would make for a cramped and difficult build so I used the Martian 220 frame and it seems fine.

If you really want colour you could always just spray it before putting it together.

New Build - Frame Type

I was in the same place last summer learning on a ready built ZMR250 with a Naze32 rev6 board. For ease I went for the ZMR 250 frame again as it was very robust and cheap. There are lots of generic ones out there with different thickness arms and carbon. Nice for me was it can built with or without a power distribution bottom frame, which cuts out a lot of surface wiring, plus the battery 3s 2200, is on top so easy to change and the vtx and camera are tucked away and protected. I  did 2 more, one with an 4x1 ESC and one with 4 separate ESC that I just happened to have. I used the same racerstar 2205 motors and they have been fine. To simplify the electronics on the last and best build I used the CL Racing F4 board which has been super easy to tune in Betaflight for Acro and super easy and reliable to use. This rig is not the fastest but for me a good stepping stone.

My last build I used a cheapo Martain III frame from Banggood, and then because the frame didn't have much space in the main section I found a nice VTX that would stack - that build turned out pretty nice, I quite like it.  Never bothered with an HD camera on it, but it could certainly take one.

 Oh, it's good reading this...I have ordered parts to build a Martian 2 type Frame.

 It has a little more room in it for FPV stuff to fit inside using a conventional VTX I already have....Although I have to say my Darkmax is really pretty tiny TBH and that's a 220 Frame also.

 Using a Racestar 4 in 1 ESC and Racerstar 2205 motors, which are a bit cheap really.

I was amazed how long a 2200 3S Lipo would hover my Darkmax, around 14 minutes.


Nothing beats the smell of Jet-A at 800 Celsius...:)
