GoPro Repair Service
« on: January 05, 2018, 10:26:54 AM »

Hi Hubbers, has anyone used a UK based GoPro repairer that they can recommend. fI have a HERO3 Black that wonít boot up or reckognise the SD card, very annoying as I have never actually used the camera. It just cycles through on off, on off, and the only way to turn it off is to remove the battery.

I had a recent issue with my GoPro session - having managed to peel the back off of it in a crash.  I went through the official GoPro site (which ended up in a online chat thing) with me expecting to be able to buy a replacement part and them saying "we don't repair"

They initially offered to give me 20% off a new camera in return for my one, which was obviously stupid, but eventually (for some reasons) decided it was within warranty and swapped it for a new one.

So the reason I mention this is two-fold.  Firstly, if you can provide some sort of proof of purchase and it's got a regular serial number, they might just swap it.  Secondly, some people do seem to have somehow got a repair of their cameras (or perhaps they were just told that's what would happen, and just got it replaced)

Thanks for the info, unfortunately it is out of any sort of guarantee as I bought it 2 years ago and its been sitting unused since then in favor of my Mobius and Git2 which I also use as dashcams . The GoPro crashed during a firmware update and now is now just cycling through start up and shut down.  I have been told that new spares for the Hero3 are not supplied anymore.

Try them anyway - use the online chat.  Worst case scenario is they offer you a stupid discount and you tell them to shove it.

LOL why not, I will give it a go, but I will probably go with another GitUp Git2 or Git3, my current one has been working daily as a dashcam for 23 months with no issues at all and pin sharp focus.

I suppose I could but what if itís not the motherboard? I suppose if that didnít fix it  I could break it for spares.
EDIT
Ive just searched the inter web and I canít find a replacement board for £50 that wonít attract customs duty and vat. Most if not all are in the USA and we all know the cost of that. Logically I paid £150 for the camera which has laid unused since purchase, if I add a motherboard at an imported cost of £75 the camera would owe £225 and is worth about £100 on eBay. Mmmmm.......Brand New top of the range GitUp Git3 dual camera is £93 on Banggood.

I have but I also like the Git3 duo, with the second camera plugged in it automatically does PIP. Just for the hell of it I will take CKís advice and ring GoPro next week, just to see what discount I get offered.

As CK intimated GoPro couldnt or wouldnt help unless I could provide an original invoice for the camera in my name, which I cannot. So instead offered me a 20% discount off full retail price for any camera, no thanks.  So I am starting a new thread.
