Have you modified the airframe at all to strengthen it? We found the first thing to go would be the nose would get bent up and miss shaped and the hatch would break, normally into many pieces. I've got a strip of carbon fibre down the entire length of mine. To help the nose. I've actually glued the hatch in place to a) avoid it breaking but b) to further strengthen the nose.

  Hi Sir Dave,

No, I just have the underside reinforced with glass strand tape, that's all. I always land this bird LOS, it comes in pretty fast but it's easier to get a precise smooth landing when doing it LOS rather than FPV.
Having a smooth mown strip also helps too....lol.

Like I said, the original Jamara Roo is made from EPP, a different plane in terms of strength.

Yeah the Skyfun foam is more like polystyrene does not crash well. I used to always land line of sight as it was easier to land closer, now I do a bit of both. Wings I'll generally land fpv but bigger stuff often take the goggles off for a better idea of what the plane is doing as it comes in

 Skyfun Makeover.....A bit more progress...:

After the Z84 Maiden and a bit of flying, my attention is back on the Skyfun.

I now have the spare UART Port configured for wireless Flight Controller updates...Oh joy, no micro USB to struggle with. The FC is now installed in its permanent position and also the EZUHF receiver is now on a little pedestal, a fitting addition because this UHF radio setup is so far a dream. Resistant to just about everything you can chuck at it TBH.
I have fitted the cheap M8 GPS too, Im just hoping the 1280mhz VTX doesnt deafen it.
Im considering placing the small vtx tuned Dipole on the starboard Fin rather than using the giant Ducky (which also works rather well).
CG is dead on as seen at the moment without VTX or Camera fitted. This time, the Runcam Eagle is going on the nose rather than the Canopy.

  The Skyfun makeover is completed..:)

The small GPS is going to have to be changed as it only gets around 8 or 9 Sats, even when i substitute a 5.8G VTX. The 1280 vtx makes it drop to 6...not enough.  With my usual GPS, 20 Sats is normal, much better.

On the up side, the new Sunnysky driving the APC prop is turbine smooth and silky, a good thing as I was concerned about the long mount overhang.
The CG is now right in the centre of the Finger Grips, where it should be.

Looking forward to using the 16:9 Eagle again.

Are you sure about the CG? The Jamara Roo manual states the CG is at the front edge of the finger grips. I fly mine like this since i built it. I am sure i can go a bit backwards with the CG, but dont know if the middle of the grips is a good idea.
Please report back after testing.
Did 70km on mine and with perfect CG there should be some km more possible.
And be aware there are no new Skyfuns available anymore :D so take care of it

  Hi m8,
Don't know about the Roo and its C of G...?...I know mine was like yours, set at the front of the finger grips, but I always felt like it was a bit nose heavy having flown it quite a bit now.
I recall watching a clip of someone using the mid grip position and it was perfectly ok. Remember, this is a Delta Wing, and unlike your normal Flying Wing, they are less picky about CG.

Yes, as I remarked in my thread, HK have discontinued the Skyfun now....but you can get it from Skyartech if you are prepared to pay a premium price for the bare kit only.....I think it was about $70.

The Roo is probably a better buy, its made from EPO and far better all round.....German...Dunno how much one is or even if you can still get them....Jamara is the manufacturer if I remember ok..?

Roo and Skyfun are the exact same plane. Jamara sold its mold long time ago to Skyartec. So there are no Roos available anymore.

If you buy from Skyartec you have to pay around 30-50 dollar for shipping.

Let me know how the cg work out, so i can tweak mine :)

Personally I've always flown my Skyfun with the cg at the front tip of the finger holes, flies perfect with it there

  Hi m8,

Im sure it will be fine on the centre of the finger grips, it's a Delta and it can cope with this minor change.

Im going to wire up a proper M8N GPS this week and substitute it and hopefully get a flight in this week all being well.

I'll let you know how I get on, with live downlink footage I hope, always more interesting than HD....lol.
