This would seem to indicate that this type of thing doesn't meet the definition of commercial:

https://www.caa.co.uk/Commercial-industry/Aircraft/Unmanned-aircraft/Small-drones/Guidance-on-using-small-drones-for-commercial-work/

Although perhaps it could be argued by someone who is a tosspot that shops sending stuff in return for a video is a third party commissioning them.
Thanks, I agree that it would be a right jobs worth that got picky about affiliate income but just wondered if it had cropped up before.
Thanks for the Quote, very useful. Not that anyone would want to see my attempts at flying or send me anything to test, I was just interested.  :D

While every case should be judged on its own merits, some types of arrangements are not generally considered by the CAA to be Commercial Operations such as:

Advertising revenue received as a result of persons visiting a website or social media page where video or photographic stills shot from a drone are displayed/posted.  This is because these types of web-pages may be legitimately used to post recreational video material that was not commissioned by another party, but was conceived and wholly funded by the poster.
Note: This would not apply if the photographic material had been directly commissioned by another party for the purposes of display or marketing on their website.

Although perhaps it could be argued by someone who is a tosspot that shops sending stuff in return for a video is a third party commissioning them.

Just a quick question. If legally you are required to have a PfCO to profit from flights I assume that also covers everyone who 'monetises' their YouTube vids?

I wonder if all the quad reviewers on YouTube have PfCO licences?

Probably not much of an issue now Google stopped the vast majority of people monetising their channels.

Great results from that setup - both in terms of distance/flight time and the resulting HD footage.  What a stunning place to fly as well !

Chaps,

Some footage from my holidays in Brazil earlier this year, hope you enjoy!

[WARNING - Audio volume might be a bit high - let me know!]

I've also written a mini review on the Split 2 based on my experiences so far...

-----
>> Runcam Split 2 mini review

Im using my Split 2 on a Wing Wing Z-84 frame with a pan/tilt setup. I use a (GoPro) polarizing filter to help with the jello and increase contrast/saturation. To use the filter, I had to make an adapter from plywood the Split 2 RC25G lens diameter is ~17.5mm while the GoPro filter ID is ~23mm.

Pros
.Form-factor enabled me to create a small pan/tilt assembly for FPV with HD recording capabilities
.The WDR works great and has allowed me to capture some high-contrast footage that otherwise would have blown out on non-WDR cameras
.Audio output good quality and quite useful

Cons
.The infamous corner lines are there just look at the top right corner (using release FW 1.0)
.Not a great fan of the super wide angle lens (165deg diagonal FOV, corner distortion); wish there were some other lens options, ideally around the 100deg FOV.
.White Balance cant be set using the on-camera menus (but everything else is in there I think), only through app.
.GPS issues the Vector GPS v2 (GPS+Glonass) was struggling to acquire satellites. The issue was solved by wrapping up the camera cable with anti-EMI foil tape and grounding it.

Stuff Im not too bothered about
.The lines again Id rather have some HD footage than no footage at all but Im not using the footage for anything but my personal enjoyment.
.Slightly flat output; this is understandable due to the WDR tonal compression; +50 contrast on Power Director 15 seems to sort it out.
.The camera cable could be more flexible
.Native 1080p is only available for widest FOV; narrower FOV modes crop at the sensor and upscale to 1080p in-camera (this is not mentioned on the manual)

Overall fairly happy with the results.

Cheers

Cheers guys. Yeah it was pretty gusty, one second calm, the next really strong wind... Especially on the top of that hill where you saw the OSD.

The landing was actually quite smooth, it was the wing cam that made it look a bit harsh :) Might be the first time it didn't get ripped off on landing though

It's been a few weeks since I last posted a video.  Unfortunately work has been getting in the way! :(

Anyway, here you go, and I hope you enjoy!

I like that Tx, looks like it could be useful.

I think GoPro are well in the doo doo now, if you see the state of their shares recently its a company about to take a big fall. Maybe they will adjust their prices to lessen the blow, and maybe pigs might fly :)
