FY31, Hornet and Zephyr II setup help please
« on: November 25, 2014, 12:39:01 AM »

Hi guys

I'm new to this AP lark :D

Relied on EzUHF until now but I really need an autopilot for my Zeph so I bought a used FY31 with GpS and Hornet.

I'm pretty useless with written instructions. Videos are a doddle to follow.

I have gone through Alishamnos videos on youtube (wish his voice was a bit deeper) and am struggling in a few areas

How does the hornet osd connect to the fy31? Or does it not?

I can't seem to get the mix correct either. A standard mix on my taranis doesn't seem to work anymore. I'm sure it's the fy31.

Any advice would be great. A link to a video with a full zephyr setup and taranis would be ideal. But anything less would be very useful :) thanks.

The hornet connects to the FY via the black and white wired lead, make sure its the right way around or it wont work.

The mixes are done with the DIP switches on the top ( refer to manual but I think its DIP swiych 3 )

I thought so- but couldn't see him use it in this video :s

Have triggered dip 3. The aelorons work but elevator does some weird stuff. Servos respond the same as if I have banked hard to one side :s

I'm incredibly thick when it comes to written instructions. Show me a picture or a video and I will never forget it. If I'm lost and I ask for verbal directions- any more than 3 very simple steps- and I'm totally lost and I switch off. I feel like I'm being hypnotised when someone gives me directions :s

First you have to set it up in manual mode. You need the DIP 3 active, then change your aileron and elevator directions on your radio so that it moves the controls correctly.

Don`t forget to turn off any mixing on your radio, the FY does the mixing

Ok with just 3 channels on the radio

Ail
Ele
Thr

Aelerons work fine but there's no response to elevator at all :s

No mix on the Tx.

I'm really useless at this stuff :s

Its hard to say whats going on with nothing to go off other than they dont work.

What radio are you using ?

DIP switches should be off off on off

When you say not working, not working when you move the sticks or not working as in when you pitch the plane in stab mode ?

Don't won't to seem negative or rude  but how are you going to set up and tune radios videos autopilots wiring etc etc if you cannot read a manual and understand it well enough to put it into action. Your just looking at crash after crash and getting yourself into potentially dangerous situations.

Fair point. Only crash I have ever had was when my EzUHF a failed Mid flight.....

It's the first time I have tried a full autopilot- which I bought used. It didn't come with a manual- but I printed one off which isn't much use tbh.

The brand new taranis I bought didn't come with a manual either, which is odd. I can set up a simple wing arrangement on it easily- it just doesn't seem to work with the autopilot feature. I should probably spend more time learning it through and through though. I knew my dx6i pretty well, but the taranis is much more complex.

I'm actually pretty good at soldering and electronics. But I'm a visual learner- so I find it hard to work stuff out when it's just written down without pictures.

I take your point though- perhaps I am trying to run before I can walk. And it's not reasonable of me to just post on here with minimal information and expect others to fix my problem.

I will come back with more info :)

Fair point, I will sit down tonight and try and articulate what is and isn't working and get back to you. Thanks.

/i think the best think to do would be to join me on a google hangouts when I`m free tonight.

I will walk you through a delta wing FY31AP setup step by step. That way everything will be set right and you should have a much better understanding of what you are doing / what effect its having and a better understanding of the Taranis.

Then we will know the first step is then done properly so we have somewhere to start with the rest.
