We updated the Kickstarter page. You can now read about setups we have tested. We hope this helps everyone to find their perfect setup.

It's only two days till our Kickstarter for the MiniRaceWing ends.

We want to use this opportunity to thank all our supporters and ask anyone who is considering backing us to do so.

Even if we don't reach our goal, by showing your interest in the MiniRaceWing you can help us tremendously! The MiniRaceWing is a new concept and it was hard to guess how people would receive it.

Showing your support by backing us, you help us to plan beyond the Kickstarter.

We have been asked many times what happens if the Kickstarter fails. And we are happy to tell you that of course we have planned for both cases.

So If you are thinking about getting a MiniRaceWing please consider showing your support now, by backing.

Just a reminder, because we got asked a lot, how Kickstarter works. The money you back is not transferred until the goal is actually reached. It is only if we reach our Kickstarter goal that your account is charged and the money is transferred to us. If the Kickstarter doesn't reach its goal your account will not be charged.

Regards,
Markus

Hey Marcus,
You might want to amend the link in your post, and remove the quotation marks around the URL. Best of luck with the campaign 😉

The Kickstarter has ended. Our goal was ambitious and in the end we didn't reach it.
But that doesn't mean the end of the MiniRaceWing, there is never only one way.

We have pre-planned for both Kickstarter outcomes. However, we will need a few days to select the best of our other options and check if all dependencies are still in place.

We will announce any news regarding the MiniRaceWing through our newsletter.
If you aren't already signed up please do so.

We like to thank all our supporters and all the people who expressed their wish to buy a MiniRaceWing after the Kickstarter! Also CurryKitten for the great preview!

You can contact us trough Facebook or send us an email at [email protected] if you want to send us feedback or have a questions.

Regards,
Markus & Jonathan

Just to bring this one back to current again.  A copy has been produced, and of course Banggood have already listed it

http://www.banggood.com/TechOne-FPV-Wing-900-900mm-Wingspan-EPP-FPV-Racer-Carbon-Frame-RC-Airplane-Kit-p-1141385.html?rmmds=newArrivals

No idea exactly how much the TechOne wing copies from the MiniRaceWing, but it does look awfully similar... not sure if the wings look thicker though ?  Anyway, I just pinged an email off to Markus to let him know about it - hopefully those guys will get their own wing out, and if they can show how their wing is superior then all well and good.

That's a pretty shameless rip off.

Now that is a more sensible price for what is effectively 2 x extremely cheap to make foam wings attached to an extended miniquad centre section

Especially if you don't need to do all that pesky R&D or pay anyone for coming up with the idea in the first place.

I still prefer the original design, though.  The slightly inboard vertical fins should hold up better and the increased distance between the prop and trailing edge will mean it's a lot quieter.  The noise from wings can be a bit too obnoxious for some of the sites I like to fly.

Yeah, it certainly does just look like a blatant copy, they probably just took an existing wing section and made up the centre section based on pictures. The proper design looks better I think, but I guess time will tell how they compare in flight.

It's sad but totally inevitable. Banggood and the likes can just sit and wait for others to do the design work then pump out cheap copies with no real start up cost.

I'm starting to feel like I should boycott the likes of hobbyking and banggood... they are great for making the hobby much easier to approach, but are poison for encouraging anyone to attempt to innovate and make a successful product on their own.

Yes - it felt to me like it had been designed based not the general picture of the MiniRaceWing, but without some of the actual features... such as the ability to move the CG back and forth and the motor mount angle.

Their interpretation of the wings that come off in a crash is a bit unknown as well.  They've given it a label of "magnetic attachment"

So the actual plane is built by TechOne, but sold by Banggood

http://www.techonehobby.com/product/fpv-wing-900-3d-epp/

So I'm in two minds there.  I like Banggood and I'm often quite vocal in telling people they are great because of cheap prices / free delivery etc.

I would like Banggood to address the whole cloning thing.  It's not the first time.  They were carrying krikeys 3d printed quad frame as an item at one point, and have sold other stuff directly taken from thingiverse and printed without and mention of the designer (as they should as part of the licence agreement)

Banggood have generally blamed the supplier at this point.  "we just buy from a manufacturer, we're not to know if it's a copy" etc.  But at the same point they never stop selling them either.

I actually wrote to some people in the productreview section that I've dealt with before asking about what there actual policy is should they get alerted about a copy being sold on their site.  I cited a few examples - a thingiverse link of a FrSky receiver mount, a copy of the SPRacing FC in which the comment section contains Banggood saying "it's open source" and Dominic Clifton replying "no it's not, it's my design" and the little plane that was copied from Flitetest and Flitetest actually covered in a vlog last week.

That was about a week ago - no reply.  Perhaps the question was too difficult.

Here we go again, "clone! clone!"

The concept isn't new, the MiniRaceWing wasn't the first of its type.

I had a Teksumo with a monkeyblunt centre section made from plywood.... OK so not identical but the concept was similar... keep the expensive stuff protected in a hardened centre section so the wings can be sacrificial if they need to be.

I'm not sure why people are getting so butt-hurt about a "similar" type of aircraft coming to the market... it happened a while back with the Go-Discover which was "a clone" of the RVJet (it wasn't, it was just similar)

"Clone" and "copy" implies an exact replica... which this is not. And TechOne have been around a while... it's not just some start-up that's ripped off someone's idea. They have the means to bring something that has proved popular to the market, and at a reasonable price point... some would thank them for that.

I'm seriously confused that people would actually prefer for JUST one company to be making this type of wing where they have a monopoly and therefore the ability to charge a disproportionate amount of money for the damned thing

From a purely selfish perspective I might like to be able to buy one of these for thirty quid or whatever they come down to.  But even still from a selfish perspective the bigger picture is impossible to assess.  It might well be that there lots of people who have some good ideas that they don't bother to pursue because of the inevitability of Chinese copies.  So due to the fact that I like buying stuff really cheaply there might be lots of other cool stuff that I'll never be able to buy for any price at all.

Good that you've taken some action Wayne, kudos for that! I guess there is nothing really to stop it, and Banggood will always plead ignorance.

I just know I would be pretty pee'd off if my funding campaign failed and the idea I'd worked really hard on appeared weeks later by some mob claiming 'anti resistance, anti crash, and super violent power'! When you consider it is being imported from China it's not really that much cheaper than what the original was going to be.

It's frustrating because like Loopdreams says there are probably loads of ideas that people don't pursue because they know that as soon as they go public some company that has money and people will just take the idea and get to market before them for less money. I'm an engineer and would love to do stuff on my own, but you just couldn't compete with these guys that can mass produce stuff quickly and cheaply.

Saying that, I didn't support the kickstarter as I thought it was a bit expensive, so I should get off my high horse really.
