Naze 32 strange problem
« on: November 25, 2017, 11:50:17 PM »

Old Naze 32 in a 250 quad, been reliable as hell for 4 years and 400 flights.
Today, when I prod the sticks to arm it, I get the beep and the green LED, but when I put on the power, the motors don't spool up.
Happened 4 or 5 times, then I got one perfect flight.
Next battery - same, arm works on the beeps and LEDs, but no motor response.
How can that happen? If the Naze beeps and shows the LEDs, then TX and RX and Naze and ESC's and motors must be OK. So how come no motor power?
I'm stumped. Help welcomed !

AHA! It is temperature related.
I wondered if the cold had affected something, because it armed fine after I got it home.
So I stuck the quad in the fridge for half an hour, and sure enough, it wouldn't arm.
Half an hour in the airing cupboard and it arms 100%.
So something about the gyros doesn't like the cold I suspect.
I'll try re-calibrating or something like that....

Maybe a hair crack in the PCB board from a crash?

Or some solder joint broke, you could try resoldering in the oven

Oohh, interesting idea, thanks.
Hadn't really considered that, only looked for bad wires / plugs.
Thanks.

I had that issue with one of my mobius. So I followed the instructions on the mobius site and cooked the pcb in the oven and it worked.

Yep, I could take to where I used to work and get it reflowed.
Or dribble some flux on it and reflow it in the (domestic?) oven.
What temperature did you use - I thought normal solder was over 250 deg C which is gas mark 9+  ???
Or do you mean a proper soldering reflow oven?

230C, 4min in a hot-air oven should do the trick

Well, I re calibrated the accelerometers, and tweaked my endpoints for rudder and throttle (they weren't quite reaching 1000 and 2000) and it now arms fine fresh from the fridge.
My guess is the endpoints were marginal and affected by temperature.
