Modern Dilemma, What Would You Do?
« on: November 28, 2017, 04:57:00 PM »

I attend a small gathering in a centrally located hall in my  Town on Tuesday mornings, normally about  20 people of different ages and backgrounds, and no, itís not AA!  So today I just happened to glance up at the window and to my surprise I saw a Mavic in the hover at about 4 meters off the ground facing the window, obviously looking in. As I pointed this out to the others in the room, in rotated anti clock 450 degrees, rose to about 18 meters vertically just missing a telephone cable, went forward 30 meters turned 90 Deg left and flew off up the high street at about street light height.

To put this in context, the hall is on a very busy street and next to a kindergarten one side and a extremely busy building site the other, this was 10:30 am and the High Street was busy with through traffic and shoppers.

There was a total mix of reaction from the people in the meeting from outrage at having their privacy invaded to safety concerns to total ambivalence. I have to say, I was quite cross at the stupidity of whoever was pilot in command. At first I did consider that it may have been a commercial operation for the builders but on reflection there where no cordons or signs and the road out side the hall, 2 meters from the window, was open to traffic. So, what would you do? Report it to the police? Ignore it and donít get involved?

You could report it to the police, but they won't attend. A report would be filed. End of. And I'd say due to the nature of the flying a nob would be on the control end .... So there's no point fronting him up unless you before your teeth!

I would never confront such a person, not my job. What was apparent and very topical was how impossible it was to spot said idiot. He could have been anywhere.

I think too late to take any positive action. Likely just to create more additional anti-drone sentiment than the guy has already created.
I would have taken my own positive action. Usefull for spares...

Personally I'd have thought "cool a quad! Wonder who's flying it?" but I'm a bit biased as I'm interested in those type of things hehe.

I know this because I once heard (and then saw) a drone behind the trees at the bottom of my garden and my first instinct was to grab my goggles to pick up the signal - I watched it land only a few doors down and a couple of days later I found out it was one of my neighbours at the time - who happens to be BS85 on this very forum :)

I think peoples' reactions would tend to skew towards the belief systems employed by the newspaper they read, and/or how much they enjoy being outraged at the least bit thing to cover up their bitterness/angst/annoyance at their own regrets in life, or how they believe they should behave in the company of the other people surrounding them.

I may be Dr Freud.

Well BigT I suspect if it happened at our village hall , first every body who as been flying rc fpv what ever who lives in the village would be rounded up at pitch fork point ushered to the village green and the ducking chair set up  ;D
Amidst cries of bring The devil to justice ban The roter etc.
The media being our only proper point of contact would most probably be the only homage paid to the culprit when found and his craft burned on the highest cliff top to warn off this evil modern way of life that's creeping into our coves and villages.

The above sort of crystallises my thoughts about the majority of thoughts down here.
Secondly we probably have more crashed and lost multi's down around this part of the coast than most places,  this may have bearing on why the hostility towards them.
Ps  Dear Dr Steve W your in the wrong profession  ;) you speak with straight tongue  ;D

dizzy :)
