Omnibus F4 Version 5....Genuine Original Board..?
« on: March 07, 2018, 04:15:46 PM »

OMNIBUS F4 VERSION 5....Original Board..?

This F4 arrived today from HobbyRC, described as a genuine F4 FC.

Arrives Double bagged in two antistatic bags with an instruction sheet inside, including a wiring diagram. First impressions of the quality is that its very well made, with clean circular plating around the pin holes and even the USB socket is plated.
Arrived with Betaflight loaded, but hooked up to iNAV and flashed it no problems at all. Seems to work ok so far and programmed ok using the latest 1.9.2 Configurator and Stable release Firmware. There does not appear to be a Omnibus F4 version 5 SD listed, so I just loaded the standard F4 board firmware.
Not too bothered about data logging anyway, but it appears inside iNAV..strange.

Some things I have noticed that Im not so pleased about:

1)  The board in my photo is not quite like the one on the sellers website. The 3 PPM/SBUS selection pads are not present or labelled like on the Website board photo.
Instead it has 3 small pin holes, Im assuming they work like the Website board, but they are not labelled the same.?

2) Uart 6 pins are very close to the (metal) SD Card holder, soldering there will be very tricky, so Uart 3 will be used for the GPS receiver instead. It doesn't look as bad on the photo as it does on the real thing..!!...but its very close.

3) As BigT described a few weeks ago, the Giro is 90 degrees out to normal. This was easy to put right using the Yaw board orientation adjustment. Used the new Giro calibration routine, it all worked ok and the check ticks were very useful. Comparing photos revealed that the Giro Chip is indeed physically oriented 90 degrees out compared to other F4 boards.

Likes:

 1) Quality board and soldering with nice plating.

 2) Onboard 5v switched mode power supply...takes up to 6S Lipo input...No heating issues.

 3) PPM / SBUS solder pad links.

 4) Barometer on the board.

                                                                                                :vulture:
