New OSD
« on: July 08, 2018, 11:06:17 AM »

Hi All
Just planning my next fixed wing FPV plane. Think I'll be using the Volantex Ranger as the airframe.
I've used Eagletree gear in the past (OSD pro). I'm tempted by the new Vector but it's a bit bulky and quite a lot of money. Is there an alternative system which allows you to program in waypoints that show as a graphic on your OSD overlay? I think I've seen a system where you can enter in waypoints with compass direction and distance. That sounds a bit complicated, so ideally I'm after a system which allows you to enter waypoints via long and latt info. I'm not really interested in auto fly/nav to waypoints or RTH, just the means to show waypoints as a graphic on the OSD overlay.

Cyclops Tornado is the one you're thinking of. You have to input coordinates via Heading / Altitude / Distance from your takeoff point which is a faff, especially if you decided to fly from somewhere else instead

Pitlab OSD might be worth a look but I'd probably be getting a Vector if I were you.

Have a look at a decent flight controller and iNav Fixed Wing. Cheaper and has much more versatility for mission planning

Thanks both,
I've had a quick look at the inav gear. This is very unfamiliar to me as I've never flown quads (which I'm guessing is where this sort of gear evolved from)
Think on balance I'll go for the Vector.
Thanks again

Sort of but it developed into fixed wing years ago. Itís not a plug and play system for sure but it knocks the spots off some of the more expensive autopilots. The best and easiest to use is without doubt the My Fly Dream system which I have used for 4 years without any issues at all. Coupled with the MFD UHF system is good for 20 plus miles
