Introductions and suggestions!!
« on: August 05, 2018, 03:22:48 AM »

Hi guys!

I really fancy getting back into FPV after a good 6/7 year break! Previously, I built a fantastic radian with some great equipment but binned the plane into some woods and never found it!

I would like to build a quad, but could do with some advice on frame and frame size. I like the look and size of the 5" frames but wondering about the stability in flight? Im not fussed about racing, but the smaller stature is appealing for exploring in tight spaces!!!

If I got a smaller frame, but a good flight controller would that offset it?

Im also wanting to get a reasonable flight time in, and as I understand this size frame has a good weight/flight time ratio?

If you are looking at 250 size frames then 5 mins flight times are around the best you would be looking at, once you go up tosay 450 size then you can carry larger lipos with lower KV motors and increase flight times to around 10 to 15 mins realistically. But speed will be greatly reduced but then you could carry a gimbal if so wished.
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

I have a several  zmr 250 quads that run on either 3s 2200 or 4 s 2200 25c packs all have decent runcam or Sony cameras, FrSky xs rx and Eachine vtx. The frames are cheap, have good thick arms and although originally designed for the Naze Rev 5 FC can be adapted to any F.C. on the market. I run Betaflight without a gps and used CurryKittens settings. In stabilised mode they are very tame. These quads have got me through to flying in acro mode and can be used for the BMFA FPV Extension. They are quite nippy enough for a beginner. In leisure mode I can get around 6 to 8 minutes with the pack alarm leaving 14% in. In mad mode I probably would get 4 to 5 mins. One thing to remember going forward is these weigh over 250 grams.
I am seriously considering selling one of these off and buying a 2 inch just for the fun factor.

I probably have enough spares to make a complete frame up.
