E.T.s Ranger G2 Build...F405 Wing FC
« on: September 11, 2018, 05:22:31 PM »

Ranger G2 by Volantex....Supplied by Bangood.

A fairly small model by Volantex but its very precisely moulded and assembly is really easy. I opted for the ARTF version but dumped the stock motor in favour of a SunnySky. Not cheap, but nicely designed and made.
Fitted with the new Matek F405 Wing Flight Controller, install was pretty simple. It fits nice on the shelf and only required some minor clearance work with a Soldering iron to make way for the ESC signal plug. The output for the ESC controls was changed for some 90 degree pins which makes more sense than vertical ones.
Glad I bought my F405 when they first appeared, the price has shot up recently. It's a luxury Controller and makes life really easy with no BECs to worry about, an advantage on this pretty compact model.

I opted for 5.8G on this one, it seems more suited to its lightweight build. Even so, Im expecting it to do 3kms out with ease on the XM Plus receiver. The VTX should stay really cool mounted here and the controls are easy to get at.

Any questions, fire away if you are thinking of getting one...:)

That's a super nice, clean build ET!

Could you fit a mini pan tilt on your camera setup?

Cheers

Cheers m8,....There is an alternate FPV Mount instead of the Black Cockpit I could use....It's actually quite a small model although it has more room in it than say a Bixler (not difficult). It's one of those models where you need to be careful of weight and drag.
Nice design and manufacture, but not a lot of wing area to play with which is why I have kept it lightweight.

 Hi Ian,
Thanks, yes, for now anyway. The only weak link I think may be the VTX, I may need to put a proper 5.8G vtx in it. It's a small model and the F405 Wing FC makes for an easy (lightweight) install.
It's rather tight on space in the Lipo bay TBH, but it should still be capable of say an 18 km duration, which is plenty.
Hoping to Maiden it next Tuesday all being well when this wind drops.

Hi Steve,

Yeah, it's deceiving, the designer made a Schoolboy error by spacing the plywood Lipo mount well off the floor, this restricts the size of lipo which will fit between the ply plates.
Your right about the Z84 though...lol.
