What Happens After Return to Home?
« on: September 23, 2018, 05:15:41 PM »

Hi all,

I'm running Inav 2.0.0 on a couple of models at the moment, and really enjoying it.
I was impressing one of the guys at the flying field with an RTH demo, when he asked "so what happens if you have a real failsafe?" I have my fixed wing set to Never Land in Inav, so anyone know for sure what would happen if say, the receiver fried or became disconnected mid flight?
I'm assuming it would just RTH and then loiter until the battery ran out?
Then what would happen?

Has anyone had this happen, and if so what was the result?

This is what happens with nearly all AP's

They loiter until the power runs out, then circle until they stall, they you catch it ...... Hopefully :)
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

Which is why you don't set RTH to a place with buildings or trees within the RTH radius if you can help it heh

Iíve had exactly that, I had a loose power connection to my rx which caused intermittent failsafe, and then a more permanent one... the annoying thing is that I couldnít find the fault as it worked perfectly on the bench. Turns out the issue was a dodgy power pin on the board to the rx.

On the first occasion it happened it was almost over head and immediately started loitering. I stood there scratching my head wondering how to get it down when the connection made again so I quickly landed. As it landed it failsafed again which made it go into RTH while on the ground - one smoked motor and esc.

Since then inav has been updated so you can have a radius around your home position where if it failsafes within that it wonít attempt to RTH. Definitively safer in my opinion. Anyway after checking it over, replacing the broken bits and updating inav, it seemed to be working so I went flying again. This time I had it set to land after rth caused by failsafe - sure enough (I hadnít discovered the dodgy intermittent pin at this point) it failsafed and worked perfectly. It came back, started loitering and went into land mode, flying in a descending orbit before reducing power and Ďlandingí in a bush! The motor was still spinning slowly when I got to it so Iím not sure if I need to check the settings as I would expect it to cut power when motion has stopped, but I was impressed with how it worked.

So, check your inav settings carefully!
