E.T.s F330 Quad.....Fixing Video NOISE...!!!
« on: October 02, 2018, 01:26:52 PM »

Since entering the dark world of Multirotors, I now have a collection of 4 quads, the most recent favourite being the cheapo F330 with iNAV now installed and working pretty well.
Having sorted out the ESC / PIDS / Filters in order to prevent the motors cooking themselves, it now flies very smooth with stone cold motors. It will even carry a 4000 mah 3S with ease even using 5 Inch tri blades, which was a bit surprising.
I have now fitted a GPS and Compass, the FC has a Baro and was about to start exploring some flight Modes and iNAV.
The biggest problem I had with all 4 quads was noise on my video. It varies from one model to another, but they all have it to some degree. The Stingy was by far the worst. Having tried off the shelf LC Filters from E-Bay with a little improvement, I still wasn't satisfied it was the real answer. So I decided to make my own having watched Bruce's tutorial on Toroidal inductors.
The Ferrite Rings came from work and the solid copper wire is some old Telephone cable I stripped out, perfect, it even has four lines in it. The large Capacitor is a 1000 micro farad 35 volt low ESR type and E-Bay will provide.

The Capacitor sits across the VBATT input to the Flight Controller, leave the legs sticking through a little so you can solder on the power input lines. This set-up will provide smooth, clean, ripple free voltage to the FC / Camera and VTX.
Before I did this, the noise coming off the cheapo 4 in 1 ESC was horrible, and now it's crystal clear. Parts cost is about 50 pence I recon....

 The Stingy Inductor and Capacitor...

The servo output socket is for the Micro onboard DVR

Caps do help a lot as does decent vtx. I was running a vtx03 and it was quite noisy but I fly under power lines. Changed to a Unity Pro race and it is so much cleaner video.
The capacitor should help as low pass filter.

It's always good to read how people fixed issues.
Happy flying.

 Hi m8,
Yes, the Cap is only part of the solution though. You are right about some of the cheapo Quad VTXs, they have noisy BECs on them. The one on the Stingy is one of them.
I have an original IRC VTX on my F330, and that's very clean in comparison.  Hoping to get into iNAV now and some GPS Flight Modes.
