Need a replacement VTX
« on: October 03, 2018, 01:38:17 PM »

Hi folks.  Iíve managed to damage my VTX to what I think is beyond repair.  Trouble is itís from a Walkera furious 215 and the parts come from China on a slow boat.  Does anyone know if I can fit a better/different one.  It was working fine and Iíve just ordered Diversity from furious FPV for my Attitude v4ís.  Should be here any day now and the wait would kill me! Ha.
Cheers

Looking at the second image most vtx should work. It needs to be powered by 5v. The one you have also does sound, do you use the sound on your goggles? If not then something like an IRC Tramp https://www.hobbyrc.co.uk/immersionrc-tramp-hv-58ghz-video-transmitter-sma at £29.99 would be a very good vtx. Make sure that the pigtail matches your antennas. When you connect it make 100% sure you have the correct connections before applying power.

I would have suggested a Unify Pro race at about £22 https://www.hobbyrc.co.uk/tbs-unify-pro-5g8-hv-58ghz-mini-fpv-transmitter-race-sma but I don't think that works off 5v which is already on your vtx connector. So you would have to get 2S+ battery voltage from somewhere on the quad.

The circuit board on your quad where the original vtx plugged in is labelled so it should be easy to connect a new one.

Thanks Ched. Just had a look at the ImmersionRC one.  Looks like itíll fit the bill.
I have tried sticking an earpeace in my fatsharks but Iím just getting crackle so was unsure how to set it up anyway.
Do you think it would just plug in or would I need to swap the wiring about to fit the output from the PDB? Would I need to buy the separate LED clicker thing to adjust settings and output mw.  Thanks again. :)

Connections will need to be changes as you need to be 100% sure the correct wire from the quad circuit board goes to the correct pin of the new vtx. If you get the power wrong you will probably kill the new vtx!!!!!
Normally soldering the correct wires together and heat shrinking them is best way to get reliable connections.

As far as I know you can change the frequencies and power output via the little button on the vtx. It is a bit fiddly but you can do it as it doesn't need to be done every time you fly. Just set to your normal freq and then you only need to change if flying with someone else.

If you ever build your own quad then the vtx can be connected to the flight controller and controlled from your transmitter!

Good Luck and check every connection twice before powering up and take props off when working on quad!

Seems like a plan.  Iíll grab one and some more heat shrink then.  Seems like it has many fans so would be an upgrade and yes I will build one at some point.  Cheers.

All sorted.  Wired her up after a trip to Halfords as I couldnít find my heat shrink.
Managed set it to 600mW too.  OSD is still there so Iím happy.  Bolted the Antenna to the frame, just need to find the right spot to mount it now.
Think Iím going to do a video on how Iíve improved this thing.  First Qud Iíve owned and learning quite a bit from it.
Thanks for your help Ched. 👍🏻

You are welcome, glad I could be of some help.
Now you have a pigtail (the cable from vtx to antenna) you can cable tie the antenna to the frame. If the antenna gets hit in a crash it shouldn't take out the vtx.

Glad you got it all sorted, we will get you building from components soon  :D
