5.8 Relay problem.

I finally got around to testing my 5.8 relay yesterday, but it didn't work as well as expected :(

I have my trusty Immersion UNO5800 5.8 diversity reciever with RHCP patch and omni set to 5840ghz to receive the video from the models.

Then I simply stuck a new Skyzone TS5813S 25mw vtx tuned to 5765ghz with an LHCP antenna onto the back of it.

It worked fine until I got to about 1km away and then I loose video signal, un-powering the relay vtx restores the video signal.

Does this sound like it should have worked better than this? Any suggestions on how I might get it to work better?

Your mixing the same frequencies with a transmitter next to a very sensitive receiver, then adding circular polarized antennas with linear. It was bound to fail really.

  Yeah, what Ian said....You can't have a relay transmitter banging away on 5.8G right next to your 5.8G UNO receiver.

  Plug your Goggles or Monitor directly into the UNO.

   You need two different frequencies for a relay station......Like 1.2G long range link with a 25mw 5.8G relay.

What you are doing is always going to have problems.

Thanks guys, obvious really but I thought the receiver might have been a bit more selective plus I was sure Iíve seen plenty of other folk doing 5.8 to 5.8 relays.  I might try a 10mw tx on an extension, if not looks like iíll stick with a cable, at least for the models running 5.8.

 Yep, relays offer freedom dont they....well, you could try a very low output 5.8g vtx but fit it with a directional antenna normally used for recieve....So,,,,the GS / Relay is kept in front of you...with the relay directional antenna pointing backwards towards you, say a multiturn for example...Keep the relay vtx as far away as possible from the UNOs antenna, say at the base of the Tripod, ground level pointing up at you....It might work.
  I always use directionals on 5.8G anyway.
