Hi,
I am thinking to install the CYCLOPS STORM OSD in a glider that has no ailerons. Is it possible to use the rudder servo output instead of the aileron output control?

   Don't see why not, in fact it may even work really well as the Rudder is a more direct way of controlling direction.

 You may need to limit the amount of Rudder throw as the Storm can be a bit slow responding. A bit of trial and error until it holds a steady direction without overshoot / undershoot / weaving.
  The Rudder is a powerful control surface, so I would say be careful how much movement you allow. In any case, you can switch back to manual if things get out of hand.

I'd say no because if you think about it, the storm will be looking for movement on the roll axis, not the yaw ... so you may find it will compensate for any roll deviation but you could still yaw in a random direction if the wings stay level.

Worth an experiment for sure.

  I disagree, the Storm has no Rudder Giro, Only Pitch and Roll, so it wont react to yaw at all.

 Applying Rudder movement will result in roll, which it will react to.  I dont see why it wont work because applying say right rudder will induce a roll to the right, as expected.  It just won't be as immediate as applying Aileron though.

I know it has no rudder gyro. I'm just saying that in stabilisation mode, it will stabilise the roll but have no control over the direction it's facing say if there's a crosswind because the rudder will push the craft around, but the storm will still think it's straight and level.

It's worth an experiment though like I said - I might be wrong.

I can't think of any reason why the flight controller should care whether it is ailerons or rudder inducing the roll and turn that it is trying to produce.  It gives ailerons/rudder, uses elevator to maintain pitch and waits for the heading to change to reach whatever it is trying for.  On the sticks flying a 2 channel glider is more similar to flying with ailerons than most people who haven't flown that way would think.

That crosswind example is true on the ground, but in the air the whole model will just drift with the wind.

The only 2 issues I can see really are firstly that youíll have to set the bank angle quite low on the storm. Because the roll is a secondary effect of yaw, rudder isnít really able to achieve higher bank angles (if at all) without the nose dropping significantly.

Secondly, Iím not sure how youíll go about tuning the gain. Rudder only glider models rely on the dihedral of the wing to give them roll stability, but with the storm using rudder to control every roll deviation itís going to snake around a little unless you lower the gain.

Dunno. Iím guessing. Give it a whirl and see what happens!

I think I'd be tempted to just add two servos for ailerons lol ... or even one if it's small enough (see ZOHD Nano Talon)
