9XR sometimes forgetting model selection
« on: December 14, 2018, 12:32:12 AM »

Hi,

Ok before I start, please don't reply with "get a Taranis" or something equally unhelpful - I have what I have.

So with that out of the way, my 9XR works fine apart from one issue - it sometimes starts up with the wrong model selected. For instance, I can be working away on Model 4, switch the Tx off, and then it restarts with Model 1 as the active aircraft.

This isn't normally a real problem, just an annoyance, but it has caught me out a couple of times when checking the failsafe on my Z84 ... I launch, fly around, turn off the Tx to trigger failsafe, turn back on and... suddenly it's set to "Skywalker" on the Tx which can have adverse issues (namely mode selection on the flight controller or inverted channels!). I have to quickly fumble through the screens to select the correct model before the plane crashes.

So - I've learned my lesson in that regard - i.e., don't do it .. but does anyone know why it would be doing this? Any other Tx I've had remembered the previously selected model and to be fair, so does this - but it regularly fails to do so and I wonder why?

Any ideas?

If it didn't used to do it then maybe there's a little button battery somewhere in there that's dead?

It's always done it - but not at regular intervals ... it can be fine 3 or 4 times on the bench and then it'll do it.

I've never seen a little button battery in there, I'll have to check - I thought it would simply save its config etc to the EEPROM?

Yeah, no idea then.  Have you ever thought about getting a Taranis?

I would suggest flashing it to the newest version of opentx but can't remember if you can flash them without modifications not involving tape.

Im with Ian, more Gaffa Tape is the solution Steve...

Don't you have to load this TX with something other than Open TX...?....Its not quite the same as a Taranis I seem to recall?

Actually my bad guys it's a 9XR Pro - It's still on the stock firmware.

Jokes aside it does sound like a memory problem, but I would recommend upgrading the firmware to the most current version and if it still does it then it will be the button cell or a hardware problem.

First - Upgrade - Free
Second - Button Cell - Pennies
Third - Hardware failure - Pricey :)
