  Ender 3 Pro

Been thinking about one of these instead of the larger bed 10S Model.

Im a little reluctant to buy it because it only has one Z Axis Leadscrew, but a little hand fitting / shimming and alignment could see it working okay looking at the Tube reviews. I dont want to 3D print Aircraft, so the smaller bed area would be sufficient for my needs and the machine is almost half the price of the 10S.
Has anyone converted one to dual Z Axis drives like it should be?
I would also need a Design capability, so what's the best Software for that on a Windows platform..?

It seems a popular choice, what is the general consensus on the Ender 3?

                                                                                                :vulture:
I bought an ender 3X as my christmas present. It was my first 3d printer. From what I watched youtube wise the pro isn't really worth that much more. Basically it has bigger ali extrusion on Y axis (front to back), slightly better psu, the fan on the control electronics was moved from the top to the bottom (you can print a protector for the top mounted fan to stop bits falling in it), plus a magnetic build plate. So if the Pro is just a few quid more it's probably a good bet but some places seem to sell the pro for 50 extra which seems a little steep.
The ender 3X has a glass bed included, a mk10 extruder, and 5 spare nozzles. I think I bought mine for 168 from technologyoutlet.co.uk. It was only 5 more than the ender 3.
I have only printed PLA at the moment just using standard settings on Cura (with ender 3 profile) and downloaded stuff from thingiverse. It was fairly easy to setup but the design could be better. I had to remove the X travel 3 times to get it level as you cant adjust it while on the z axis! I actually still use the flexi bed that was included as I didn't have much luck with the glass bed but I didn't clean it so I guess that was the issue. I upgraded the FW as it didn't have thermal runaway protection. I find it works perfect without any tweeks. The Z axis lead screw was almost a perfect fit, so no need to print spacers etc. I am running Octoprint on an old Raspberry Pi2 with a camera so I can see how its going on while I am downstairs. I also find it easier to upload the gcode to the printer via the OctoPrint web interface in stead of taking micro sd cards in and out.
I don't have any experience of any other printers but it all worked perfectly and was easy to setup. It does seem to get good write ups especially for the money. I would say go for it. Get some PLA and ABS and have a play :)

As for design software I use OpenSCAD for most stuff as it is code driven and I do a fair bit of coding. The popular one is  FreeCAD which is good but a bit of a learning curve or Fusion 360 (free for under $100,000 turnover) so unless you are taking over $100,000 business turnover you are fine  :D Both the last 2 are steep learning curves but there are lots of tutorials.

Have a look here https://www.fpvhub.com/index.php/topic,53762.0.html there is a thread on ender 3

So I've been working on a tilting camera pod to take a RunCam split for my Nano Talon, I had one on my previous NT but that was before I invested in a 3D printer and was a bit crap.

It took a few attempts to fine-tune the design as I didn't want to just "hack-out" the front of the NT, so took some time to replicate the front outline and produce a cutting template and then mocked up the linkages inside Fusion 360 to ensure it would all actuate correctly (learning along the way).

I printed the main frame in two interlocking halves to avoid needing to use supports, and the camera holder is pushed in thru the front.

At first, I printed it all in PLA, but then decided to do it in ABS, but couldn't decide on colors oh and then I got some nice orange PLA which needed a few attempts to get it to print nicely (needed to print at 215 rather than 210). As a result, I've got a nice pile of left overs! I guess this could be seen as a curse to 3D printing, you keep tweaking a design or material choice to your hearts content!

All designed in Fusion 360 and printed on my Ender 3.

(My wife use to moan at finding bits of balsa thru the house, now it's bits of plastic!)

Nice work.
Our house is full of useless bits of plastic as well.
At least I don't keep getting told the house stinks of glue as much.

So what do people print after upgrades for the printer and useless trinkets??? Chess set maybe!!?

Here's the first set of pieces for ours..

Printed at 160% size from a set on thingiverse. In falamentive wood pla. It's been a real bitch. All it wants to do is run glob and strink out of the nossle. Almost a week of playing with settings to get to this point. Temp set to 190. Retract at 5mm Coast at 0.1mm3 wipe at 0.8mm and group objects as close as possible on the print bed.

As these are quite large I need to design my own board to play on. The king is 80mm tall and base is about 51mm dia.

There's not as much colour difference between the light and dark wood filaments as I would like. So will probably stain the dark darker and then varnish it all.

Going to scratch build the A10 Warthog by FliteTest and decided to print out the nacelle supports and motor mounts instead of spending hours trying to cut them out of ply.

I bought some cheap red PLA off eBay for a little something for work (I work with medical software for managing heart conditions) and it was excellent. I loaded it into my Ender, just hit print and it printed without fault. Over eight hours printing.
