first flight controller setup
« on: August 10, 2019, 10:54:24 AM »

so, having messed about with FPV a bit now flying everything fully manually, I want to try putting a flight-controller in one of my planes.  not sure quite which one yet - maybe the Mini SkyHunter or the Volantex Ranger 1600 - nothing too complex, just 3/4 channels.

so, what stuff do I need:

* FC - I like the look of the Matek F411 Wing:
https://www.banggood.com/Matek-Systems-F411-WING-New-STM32F411-Flight-Controller-Built-in-OSD-for-FPV-Racine-Drone-p-1323063.html?rmmds=search

* Rx - SBUS-capable - I have a bunch of X6R/X8Rs already which will do the job

* GPS - I have an FrSky GPS sensor, but I'm guessing that this won't work.  would something like this Beitian BN-880 be okay:
https://www.banggood.com/UBLOX-NEO-M8N-BN-880-Flight-Control-GPS-Module-Dual-Module-Compass-p-971082.html?rmmds=mywishlist&cur_warehouse=CN

* pin headers - not a clue about these but the F411 doesn't come with any

any thoughts much appreciated.  :)

Yup that's pretty much all you need. No BEC's because they are all onboard, so then its just plug and setup and you're away.

I would highly recommend watching Painless360's youtube series on setting it all up if using say iNav so any pitfalls are avoided.

thanks Coyote  :)

how about pin headers - would these in a few colours work:

"10pcs 1x40P 40Pin 2.54mm Straight Single Row Male Pin Header Strip"

https://www.banggood.com/10pcs-1x40P-40Pin-2_54mm-Straight-Single-Row-Male-Pin-Header-Strip-p-989804.html?rmmds=search&ID=233&cur_warehouse=CN

I was intending to run iNav on the F411.  I have watched plenty of Painless360/Andrew Newton videos already, but I suspect I will be re-watching them when I come to set up the FC.   :o

Those are fine, or you could get them off Ebay quicker from the UK if needed.

I would generally go for black, red and white to help against confusion so no magic blue smoke :)
