Confusion on setting the FRSKY R9MM (Mamba F405)
« on: August 25, 2019, 01:17:16 AM »

Hi guys,

I'm getting a bit confused on setting the FRSKY R9M system. I'm using a R9MM receiver and I'm trying to get it connected through SBUS and smart port and not through FPORT since is wayy to confusing.

I have used the 'SBUS_OUT' and the 'S.PORT/FPORT' pads on the R9MM, But I'm not too sure if I'm supposed to be using SBUS_OUT or Inverted S.port?

Quad is the Diatone R349
FC is the mamba F405

It is a bit confusing as FrSky's view of what inverted/uninverted is is different to everyone else.  So your 5v/GND/SBUS_OUT are correct, but odds on you'll want to use the inverted S.port connection into your other UART.  I haven't checked the Mamba f405, but most F4 cards have a single inverted UART for putting you SBUS signal thought, and everything else is uninverted.  FrsSky's "inverted" s.port is actually uninverted, so it should work.

Here's a video I made on this very subject

Thanks for your reply currykitten, I watched that video you sent but I was still confused on whether I should use Inverted s.port or s.port/f.port.
So shall I also connect the inverted s port to my other UART (TX6) whislt leaving my S.PORT/FPORT still conncetd to a UART(TX3) or shall just connect Inverted S port to UART(TX3) and not use the S.PORT/FPORT on the R9MM?

Ok guys, I've just swapped the connection to Inverted Sport, so now the only connections are GND, Voltage in, SBUS OUT to my SBUS pad on my FC and Inverted S.port to my TX3 UART.

I have also reflashed the R9MM with the FLEX firmware (not the F.PORT one) but still have had no luck, also tried messing around with these commands:

set serialrx_provider = FPORT
set serialrx_halfduplex = ON
set serialrx_inverted = OFF

But no luck and no stick input in BF

So, yes it's the Inverted S.port pad you need to connect up to your TX3, and SBUS out to your SBUS pad as you've done.

So if you've reflashed your R9MM with the Flex firmware, have you done the same flash on your module and rebound the rx?  You shouldn't have to mess around with any cli commands for this.   In the ports tab, set whatever UART your SBUS is on to serial RX and on UART3, set telemetry output to smartport.  Then in the configuration tab, set receiver type of serial and the serial receiver type to sbus.

This is equivalent of having -
  serialrx_provider=SBUS
  serialrx_inverted=OFF
  serial_halfduplex=ON

Yes, I've just also reflashed my R9M module and rebound the RX, But I'm not sure what UART my SBUS is on, since it's on the SBUS pad on my FC so not sure which UART it corresponds to on the ports tabs?
However I've just assumed that my SBUS is on UART1 and have turned my smart port on, on UART3, and have also set SBUS as my reviver type in configuration, but still no luck

I've only got an Mini Mamba F405, but looking at the docs, the UART should be 1 for SBUS as you've got.  I double checked my serialrx values as you'd messed with those previously and got

Code: [Select]
# set serialrx
serialrx_provider = SBUS
Allowed values: SPEK1024, SPEK2048, SBUS, SUMD, SUMH, XB-B, XB-B-RJ01, IBUS, JETIEXBUS, CRSF, SRXL, CUSTOM, FPORT

serialrx_inverted = OFF
Allowed values: OFF, ON

serialrx_halfduplex = OFF
Allowed values: OFF, ON

I'm seeing the half-duplex value change around between flight controllers.  I don't know what difference it may make, but worth checking that's the same.

Pictures are always good just to clarify your physical wiring.  RX to FC solder points and that sort of thing

Thanks for your fast reply currykitten I've also got a mamba F405 MINI and my quad is a DIATONE R349, and I'll get a picture of my wiring as soon as I can. Also sorry, but what's worth checking is the same. The half-duplex? what should mine be?

Mine is on a 349ex so it should probably be the same as mine

How do I get mine on 349ex as well, also would it help in any way if I moved my inverted S.port wire from TX3 to TX6?
Have also uploaded a picture of my wiring

Thanks for the picture.  It looks to me like you've connected your SBUS_OUT to RSSI on the Mini Mamba board.  It needs to go one pad to the left.  Here's the pinout https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0027/2708/4144/files/M_F405_MINI_MK2.png?1497

Okay thanks, I've moved my sbus out one pad to the left but still no luck, maybe I should run through the whole setup again for the R9MM on BF, are there any important steps to consider?

Guys what If I tried connecting it using F.port instead?
And also my receiver was bound on 915mhz and not 868mhz even though I'm in the Uk, would that have a made a difference but anyways ive changed to 868mhz and rebound the RX
