Picture looks great, sounds like its all systems go :)

 Hi Ian,
Cheers m8, yes, its pretty much ready for a proper test now....Thats if this weather will let up for just one day...

Bit anxious to see how the R9MM rx handles the 1.2G vtx so close, Im also a bit dubious about the Betian 220 GPS playing nicely this close to the vtx, but we will see later...Stay tuned..:)

Update:

After testing the Beta-flight Rescue Mode I decided to give iNAV another go. As GPS Modes go, Beta-flight and iNAV are like night and day in comparison. iNAV will do a controlled RTL without doing random nonsense ending with a crash at your feet, Loiter, and even land, so its a no brainer.
The Mr Croc is using a Matek F722 flight controller, easily capable of coping with the extra workload. This time around, it has worked with respect to motors and tuning, no heating of the motors and stable flight although it does feel different to Beta-flight, Angle Mode is particularly foggy...and Air Mode is far more lively. Adding the GPS and will be testing when the weather allows...

Sounds like a clear winner if you are wanting a more all-round solution vs a race quad :)

 Hi Ian,
yes, agreed...iNAV aint for the Race Quad Fanboys, but as I recently proved to myself, their standard defaults for a 5 Inch GPS Quad work rather nicely. Unlike the last time I tried.
It could be the F722 Flight Controller, and the fact its on rubber anti vibe mountings of course, but have to say, even using the archaic Multi-shot 125, it purrs in the hover and with stone cold motors.
I intend moving the R9mm antenna to directly under the Camera (Ratel) to give the antennas an easier time.

On a rainy afternoon, I decided to make a pedestal mount for my GPS, despite its looks, it is fairly lightweight as the aluminium is fairly low grade. Yes, I know its OTT, but who cares..?....lol.

Looks good. How are you finding the r9 system?

 Hi Ched,
It works good alongside 1280mhz video, at least in my Moto Glider with a full iNAV setup. Not tried any range flying yet on the Mr Croc Quad, but it seems to be working okay so far.
The horizontal antenna is a bit concerning TBH, if it doesn't play nice, I will drop a UHF receiver on it, I know that works no problem..:) Its tempting to buy some more R9 receivers, but not until Im satisfied they work okay.
My main problem is my Viper Goggles, both 5.8g receivers only have very short range reception, which doesn't matter when Im using 1.2g and a 5.8g relay. This means I cant fly Quads on 5.8g.
I prefer 1.2g anyway, its performance far outstrips 5.8g in particular when out at a low altitude surrounded by trees and foliage, a 5.8g killer.
Matek are about to release a new range of 1.2g vtxs and also FS style Goggle Modules, which should be of interest to some users.

Cheers.
I just switched to FrSky (x-lite S) as I was having range issues with very small FlySky RX, all 2.4Ghz.
So now my sub250 quads are running R-XSR rx but not that impressed with range. Just flying the width of a football field nothing between me and quad, I am getting RSSI range warnings!! I think it might be due to HV power lines directly above but not sure.
So I looked at the R9 but waiting to see how the R9 lite Pro gets reviewed.

Easy solution, just switch up to an XM-Plus micro receiver, good for 5 or 6 kms on a plane...about 10.

I thought R-XSR were even better than XM+ ? I do like telemetry but the XM+ dies rssi on ch16 so that's fine.
Maybe I have an issue with my x-lite S. I did have to open it up as the mode selector allen bolt fell inside  :o
I will open it up and make sure the antennas are connected properly.
Cheers

I was tempted to try an R9 setup but not sure it will have good enough penetration for my low level style of flying..

Update: Mr Croc / iNAV

The GPS and Compass are wired in, some confusion over the 5 wires exiting the cable after I had cut the plugs off it.
Turns out the -ve power wire was running on the screen of the cable. Something I had forgotten about, as I dont use / need a Compass for Fixed Wing, took a photo of the internals to remind me.  I like this GPS, it works really well inside iNAV but very badly in Betaflight. Its 22 Sats in iNAV depending on the time of year.

Its hogging all the real estate but it looks the part if nothing else, if I want my Mobius on it I will have to get a bit creative.

Info: If you are using this GPS and compass, the setting for the Compass in iNAV is CW 270 degrees flip.

GPS and Compass is fully working, the Compass is particularly impressive. Sat lock not a problem, even indoors. Flight testing when the weather gives us a break, but it looks promising so far.
