Although this link only popped up today I have been advised that it appears to be the Aussie equivalent of our CAA registration fee.

At ease gents.

What is the latest on the "drone scene" these days anyway? It was all spit and fire for a while and it seems to have calmed down.

Lots of rebellion in the clubs I belong to. Since March most members have been beavering away trying to find loopholes in the various COVID regulations to allow them to live life as before. Even to the extent that one associated club is planning to leave the BMFA because the chairman sees them as “telling him what to do”. This related to the legal requirements to be “COVID Secure” which was toss all to do with any of the associations but English law. As far as the other issues, registration etc, the sensible ones are hoping the associations can get an exemption to CAP 1798 under section 16. Contacts within the LMA tell me it’s a 50/50 chance at the moment. The BMFA tell us it almost a done deal. Believe what you may. Personally I have just kept my head down and flown when no one else is around. No FPV, all the gears just gathering dust in the loft, I should get rid really. I built a couple of vintage RC models in the lockdown, really nice and calm to fly.

Like your vintage build Big T...

..Flying at our Club this year has been largely the same, however, I am banned from flying Fixed Wing FPV for the duration of COVID because apparently, I cant hand my TX over to a Spotter if I had to...ffs.

I can and have been flying my Multicopters however, and I now have a new DJI playmate who got hooked big time after I sold him my old Darkmax quad. iNAV is working fantastic on my Quads now with motor overheat problems gone.

We have to meet in groups of six only and separate ourselves into two "Gangs" if needed. Buddy Box training is wireless only, works really well. Not sure what the problem is with the BMFA, we seem to making up our own rules to suit. Suits me. Maybe its because we are mostly older generation and have common sense in bucketloads?

I think if COVID hadn't have hit, I would have liked to have joined an indoor group flying the FPV micro quads - it's great fun, I'd love access to an indoor course or something. I could do without the overbearing geeks I found at every club I went to though, watching and judging everything all the time. No thanks!
