Hello from York! Looking for flying spots!
« on: July 29, 2021, 06:15:23 PM »

Hi guys, new to the forum and pretty new to FPV in general. I'm near York and am looking for flying spots. I'm struggling to find literally anywhere to fly. Both yesterday and today I went for a 2 hour drive with all my packs charged and couldn't find a single place to fly. Very discouraging.

Does anyone know any good spots near York? ~30 minute drive.

I tried some of the places on the fpv spots map and all our outdated. Honestly not even looking for anything special just anywhere at all I can fly  :o

Hi DreJ

Welcome to the forum.

I live in Hull and find it very difficult to find any spots to fly my quads anywhere.
I used to be able to fly them on Beverley Westwood until they slapped a ban on flying them there.

I am a member of BADMAC flying club where I can fly around the site with my quads as well as fixed wing.
It is not the best place to fly quads with all the club safety rules (which I agree with) but at least I get a chance to fly them.

I can only suggest to keep looking or see if there are any clubs near by.

I think there is a York club and one at Holme on Spalding moor.
Keep us posted on your progress.

I remember that feeling well when I first started.

In the end I decided that if I was flying by myself, I didn't need a "perfect" flying spot to hang around in - even if I got a 5 minute flight in at the side of the road around something interesting it still counted - so personally I'd just try to find somewhere off the beaten track, chuck the aircraft up and enjoy yourself for a few mins.

Chances are noone will be bothered in such a small time window.

I live near Goole by the way, not a million miles away. There seems to be a little cluster of us around these parts :)

Hi Steve Iím thinking of getting back into the hobby after some time out. I used to fly with a buddy in York with the Yorkshire Model Flyers/Vikings RC, but they moved flying sites from south of York to North of York and they only fly line of sight, mainly nitro now. They stopped flying FPV and so did I really. Would be good to know if there are some local fixed wing FPV flyers not to far away from me to meet up with should I re-invest. Iím near Pontefract so Goole and the surroundings isnít too far at all.

Hey Jimbo.

Yep understood - to be honest I think the over-regulation has strangled the hobby for the moment, it's quite sad really .. I hope it comes back, I have entirely too much cool stuff sitting on a shelf for me to accept that it's now worthless

Yeah too true! Hopefully something will ease. Looks like getting a little whoop for now and dodging trees in the back garden

I have a Mobula 6 HD - that's a lot of fun as long as you buy many batteries and a dedicated charger that can charge a few at once.
