How to Install EZUHF into Futaba 9c Module Bay

Here's how I Installed my EZUHF into the Module Bay of Futaba 9c. All you have to do to return it to standard is to pull the module.

First strip down the original module (35 smegs used here) & de-solder metal shield in 3 spots & remove, then find the white 5 pin socket at the end that plugs into the radio & de-solder all the pins & remove, that & the plastic outer case is all you'll need from the original module.

To de-solder treat yourself to a solder sucker from Maplins - its well worth it!

White PCB header socket removed - was seated between the capacitor & the resistor at the top of the board.






Then solder the EZUHF's cables to the correct pins of the connector.



Then slide the rear cover of the module into the back of the radio seated fully to the floor of the bay, then slide the pcb header sockets over the pins in the correct orientation.

Make sure the header socket sits perfectly onto the face of the rear cover over the pins - this is important when you glue it so you don't glue it into the radio!! To do this you may need to bend the pins on the header socket where you soldered the EZUHF wires on (NOT the TX pins!!) forward slightly.





In the above image the correct pins are:

PPM = Red on pin 1
v+ = Green on pin 2
Gnd = White on pin 4

NOTE: These are the colours in MY cable your cable may differ - please use a multimeter! Don't blame me if you fry your gear by not checking!


Then dab a few blobs of hot glue on the cable & pcb header to hold them in place whilst still inside the radio, as this will align the pins on the header socket perfectly - be careful! Then wait until set & remove & add more glue to strengthen.




Make a small notch in the top of the RF module case where the crystal would go so the EZUHF cable can exit the module from the front.




Then reassemble module & install into the radio to check fit & test.




Stick the EZUHF to the face of the installed module & you're done!

Cheers Dizzy, just thought I'd post it incase anyone else wanted to do the same. I figured the best way to connect the ezuhf was to use the same way futaba uses for it's own modules - with pcb headers!

Thanks Coyote, was quite a quick little mod.

I was really pleased on how it turned out - although I was a little disappointed that the little green RF LED didn't light up anymore, so I did some reading & found some info on putting a 100 Ohm resistor between pin 3 (RF LED) & pin 4 (gnd) would make it work once again, sure enough it did!

Result!!   :thumbsup:

What wattage resistor did you use?  I saw 1/8w, 1/4w and 1w resistors and don't know which one to get.

This is pretty much what I did ..finally stuck the EZUHF to the module using silicon sealer.
I dont like the Futaba connector on the back of the tx ,, I have had too many intermittents when using the simulator..so a direct wired connection much better.
sadly i am still stuck with only six channels working which is a bit disapointing

I ended using a 1/4w resistor and it works fine.  Great mod and I've had zero problems.

Is it possible to use all 9 channels with the EZUHF? TX Servo Positions just show 8 channels moving...

Don't think so as in ppm mode you only get 8 channels from the cap9 tx.
