Title: Tx Range - Cold Day / Hot Day

Hi,

So today I went flying with MarkLincs....I LOVE my bixler it just flies toooo well! (even with a broken carbon spar ;) ).... Today is was quite humid and cold....

Previously, I've had this plane out to 1km easy with out the TX (FrSky module) beeping at me for low RSSI.... however, today when I was flying, sometimes at 300m it would start beeping...

So my question is thus....

On a cold / humid day, could this have such an impact on control TX/RX range?

I'm using a Turnigy 9x (stock firmware) with FrSky Module and RX. 2.4Ghz

I have noticed the signal strength changes with the hi humidity in the air, we get a lot of moister in the air hear surrounded by the sea.

Radio propogation is affected by a multitude of factors, not least of which is meteorology.
Other factors which you may not have considered are time of day and sunspot activity. With the right conditions it is quite possible for some of the lower frequencies (short wave being the best known example) to propogate for thousands of miles.
The factors affecting radio signals are why it is impossible to give an exact and consistent figure when asked "How far away can I fly and still be in control?" The best answer is that the radio signal is more than likely to still be good, beyond where you can safely see.

This be why:-

NASA publications indicate a microwave absorption peak due to water vapor occurs at 22.234 GHz and peaks due to oxygen occur near 60 GHz and 118 GHz (..). Below 10 GHz absorption caused by atmospheric gases is small.

The associated absorption graphs do indicate there is a small peak of 2 dB per kilometer around the 2.4 GHz band due to water

Another thing to make you wonder if 2.4GHz was not such a good choice after all.
