Right guys, you know I don't do build threads but I'm just so keen on this plane I thought I should at least upload a photo before the maiden.
The whole thing from start to finish took me a day. A day that is in which I did lots of other things and was pretty chilled throughout.
Here's the weigh in pic. Bear in mind the 5.8 video is changing to 2.4 and the 3 blade prop comes off for a 9X6 APC. Also, by the weekend this beautiful Penguin will have a Go Pro nose job. I opted for a high flight cam and HD cam in the nose.

On board is the following;
2820 Motor with Plush 60A ESC
FY31AP
Hornet OSD
SecCam2000 WDR 600 camera on 360 degree 1T servo
Boscam 500mw 2.4 VTX
Dragon Link RC
1 X 5000mah 3s main pack and vtx, OSD on balance lead
1 X 1000mah 3s for UBEC running servo's, receiver and FY31AP
The foam and build quality and finishes is superb, and I'm using all the supplied control linkages and hardware - looks good to me. Basically what makes this plane so special, aside from it's great flight characteristics (going by the reviews) is that it comes pretty well pre assembled, so no foam slicing, channeling etc. It is also very tail heavy by design, which means the very large canopy and fuselage can be used for all sorts of goodies, lipo's etc. It will easily take my 5000mah, probably two of them and still find good CG. Mine is quite light, weighing in at 2.1kg. I reckon a go pro and one more 5000 would easily fall within spec.
Anyhow, watch this space, I will do a short video of onboard systems checks and post it here.
Richard
Looking good Rich, watching this with interest.
I get the impression that the Penguin is a nice cruiser as opposed to something that you blast around - with two 5000mAh packs onboard how long do you think the flights will be??
Steve I'm guessing with this motor and prop that it would cruise for 40 - 50 mins on 10 000mah. That's a guess, I'll have to chuck it up and measure the performance...
I was so close to ordering one if these but now I'm 99% decided on an RVjet...
These do look like great value for money though and a fantastic all round FPV platform.
I need a bigger house....

+1 I decided to go for a Penguin AND an RVjet - keep looking at the web site - still no sign of them - no pre-order system - am afraid I will 'miss' one when they are released !!
That's just greedy lol
Cool Rich, one for the summer then! Not sure my thumbs would stand an hour with the icy wind howling over them heh.
These things are definitely popular now, the new SkyWalker for sure.
Me personally I'm thinking of either getting an X5 wing or a Falcon wing, both from BEV but then again, I'm itching to scratchbuild a little BEAST of a plane to blast about low and fast like DivingHolland used to have. FPV aerobatics ftw!
Bring on the summer!

Look up Asomaro on this site. His name is Simon and his business is 'Desire RC'. I'm sure he'll either allow a pre-order or put you down for one when the stock is replenished. I luckily got the last one :)

Looking good Flyboysee, i know you said your in a hurry lol but awsome speed build :D
dizzy
well don bud, it takes me a day just to work out where everything is going to go.
 G
Very nice Richard. Good luck with the maiden and look forward to see a video of the flight.
I've not flown mine (or anything else FPV) since New Years day when I did the narrated flight video. The weather has been lousy since then. I've now swapped out the 2815 motor for a Hacker A30 10XL which I had on my retired ZII. I know this is rated for 4S and I used to get excellent duration from if even batting around with the ZII. I'll report back how that goes very soon.
Happy flying.
Really nice Rich, I look forward to seeing the videos from this one : )
looking forward to the results you get Rich, I got an ageing Skywalker that needs pensioning off and the Penguin is one of the contenders for the gear inside the Skywalker, the other two are the Cularis and the Skyhunter
Very very good one day build... ;)
I used to have 2 x 3 cell 4000 mAh lipos in a couple of 'planes, it's like loading a mighty brick! Is this penguin big enough to take it Flyboysee? I need to take a closer look at these Wow.....

Hi mjc1970, l saw your YouTube video of the Penguin and wanted to ask if you could advise the make and model of the small FPV camera that you had used at the nose end of your Penguin?
Thanks in advance.

Here's the link to the camera Fade2Gray. I've added a wide angle lens to it and have mounted it on a 260o servo from Simon.

And here we go... Got the 1.6 Horizon firmware on the FY-Hornet. Seems like there may be slight interference at different throttle settings. Can you see it?
