A friend of mine had a little accident with his powered glider
ESC blown out after even he admits a little too much on the throttle.
He tried to chase it down but at that height he had no chance... but the next day he managed to find it before some one
nabbed his new GoPro Black !

Wow, pretty dramatic. Says a lot about the glider that it still wanted to remain in the air even with nobody flying it. Great news that everything (minus the exploding parts) was ok
And that`s why you use a separate Bec. Glad he got it back, sad to here some thieving bugger had the new GoPro away :(

That called of been much wost, if it was set to glide, it would of traveled for miles at that height.
that's a good reason to run a separate ubec.

Ha! Cool. Love the explosion and smoke coming out initially - reminds me of an LOS crash I had, managed to land it with smoke billowing out, thought I'd saved it and then the fire really took hold! :o

Out of interest did you have a failsafe setup on the glider as it was very level all the way down, and the stalling helped it come down quite quickly and under 'control'.
I fly gliders a lot LOS and have seen a fly away when radio link was lost at around 1200', trouble is as ours are set to glide it went for nearly 3 miles before crashing. That very expensive glider was completely written off. :(
I'm putting together a venturi and will put a ubec in for sure ;D

It was found about a mile and a half away in roughly a straight line from where the failure happened. He said that the fire blew the receiver and the esc and that the ardupilot couldn't control the plane so it was purely free fall. Maybe he had the gilder balanced well and that induced the stall recover pattern, which could have landed better but also much worse....
