Title: She will fly again
Post by: FPVSteve on February 24, 2013, 06:58:00 PM
My biggest airframe, STS-330 glider ... 1.9m floats like crazy.

Now that I know a bit more about setting planes up I'm going to see if I can't give this bird the TLC it needs to fly well.

Can't wait for the summer thermals off the cornfields, have ordered another Turnigy 9x receiver, and have another VTX and Camera to put on it.

Oh and it'll carry the HD camera with ease :)

How's about this for an easy launch too (there was very little wind in this video!) ??? ;)

Now we have some nice clean aerodynamicish wings to work with :)

Some expert application of tape to stiffen up the long ailerons

Servo splitter for the ailerons, harvested from my old Easy Star - I would rather have them on separate channels for spoilerons, but I need to be able to attach the wings at the field... so the less hassle the better as I dont have any extension cables left and I don't fancy having to dig into the Rx to attach the ailerons every time I fly.

A smidge of tape to bring some life back to the faded canopy

Also added a 10x6 prop, motor is 950kv btw.

Looking good Steve, good to see your getting over your tape addiction :)

Pan servo added on the top of the plane so I can get some  cool wing views :)

FPV gear will be mounted behind, on the tailboom.

I have cut a hatch in the side of the fuselage so I can put the FPV system battery in right on the CoG. It's means there's slightly more weight on one side of the plane, but this will be offset by having the sony webbie camera on the other wing so it should be able to be trimmed nicely.

Nice clean canopy internals

FPV gear on pan servo, and Sony Webbie cam:

Finished! :)

Now just got to wait for the 2.4GHz turnigy 9x receiver to turn up so I can fly FPV (not gonna use 35MHz with a pan servo, it jitters like fook from past experience) but I will probably give it a maiden tomorrow.

Well it definitely doesn't fit in the Volvo fully assembled, even with the "ski hatch" open (who goes skiing with a front-wheel drive car anyway, really??)

Bugger!
