FPV HUB

There seem to be more of us appearing on here.  Anyone fancy a meet?  If so, where? 

How about posting below your location, whether you are a mulitrotor sort of pilot or fixed wing (or swing both ways!) and we can try to come up with a date and a location that suits the majority.

So I guess I should go first.

I'm in Dunfermline and mainly into multi's but I intend to also try a plank.

Multirotor's of various sizes and configs..    Crius / APM 2.5 / Naza M

Balloch / Loch Lomond based

3 of us here in Oban/Mull area flying FPV hex's, and electric FPV foamies of various types, helis electric, gassers and turbine, waterplanes, gliders - you name it!!!!

We are willing to travel anywhere in Scotland that's south of the Great Glen.

There's maybe about 4 of us up here but I have only ever flown with Thundead and another guy who doesn't post on this Forum.

Fixed wing for me as I don't have enough confidence yet to try my multi.

Montrose here, flying multi's only, Discovery and Phantom, up for a meet sometime but due to my work (ad hoc offshore) it'll be hit and miss whether I can make it or not so any date is fine with me, location might be a problem as due to being a bad boy on the bikes I have been relieved of my license for a wee while.... but if there's a train station then I'm good!!

I'm in Inverness and fly a Discovery, Scottish meet sounds good, will try and make it along.  There's a few guys I fly with who may be interested.

Looking at the spread of locations, somewhere between Crieff and Perth seems to be the median. This would mean a drive of about 2hrs (according to Google maps) for the guys from Oban, Inverness and Aberdeen. I did try looking at somewhere further north such as Newtonmore but it increases the time for those on the east and west coast.

I guess we need to settle on a venue first before we go for a date.

How far are you prepared to drive?

What about the Commando monument at Spean Bridge ? .. been thinking about that location for a while.. its quite high and you would have a great view of all the action.. Those coming from the east can cut over to Invergary

Spean Bridge is cool for the Oban Mafia or can I suggest Crieff Hydro - its owned by a pal of mine and I am sure he would give us permission to fly in the grounds of the Hotel.

Perth/Crieff area sounds good.
Round about Dunkeld is nice too and close to the A9.

Happy with Crief...  lot nearer me ..  :D

Duke's Pass near Aberfoyle would also be a great place..

The Memorial at Spean Birdge does tend to attract rather a lot of tourists which could be a problem.  Also it would mean that the drive from Aberdeen si well over three hours.
I like the idea of Dukes pass but again it is over three hours for those from Aberdeen and Inverness. Is there anywhere suitable there for fixed wing to land?

The single track road runs over the hill from Aberfoyle..    most of the ground is grass and heather..

Callander would be ok for us - depending upon timing. If its before Easter then thats OK but the Oban mafia are all involved in the leisure industry and we all work every weekend from Easter onwards. So for us - the sooner the better!!!  I am also expecting a hospital appointment in the post any day that will put me out of action for a fortnight.

I am away last week in March..  ..

So if its before easter, it would have to be in next two weekends for me.. 9/10 16/17 ..  could also do the Sun the 31st

I had a look today at the Knock, the hill behind the Crieff Hydro. It would make a great flying site but it is a council owned nature reserve and is very busy with dog walkers and visitors to the hotel.

Dates wise, I can do the 16th or 17th or the 23rd.

Can we firm this up ?

Suggest date that seems to suit most - Sat or Sun 17/18th March ?

Option meet at Aberfoyle / Dukes Pass , say 11am ?

Unless anyone has any other suggestions for a venue ?

Location is fine by us and either date suits us. I will speak to the others - I know one is on holiday that day so it will most likely be two of us unless my hospital appointment comes through before then (unlikely!)

Can't manage 17/18 March, but don't change just to suit me.

On my calendar the Sat/Sun is 16th/17th.

How about Sunday 17th, Dukes Pass, 11am.

Great idea. I live about 5 mins from there so thats good for me. Its a lovely place to fly, nothing in the way, great scenery!

Guys i know a fairly good spot up the Dukes Pass. I have flown my Z2 there a few times. There is a car park aswell next to where i fly from. You can see it in my video on youtube. Just to give you an idea.

That would be great thanks, I'll be easy to spot I'll be the one with a TBS discovery strapped on my back!!

I'll let you know a couple days before hand as at the moment I'm due back offshore on the 18th but that could change either way so hopefully it'll stick to the 18th or later then I'll come but if it gets brought forward then I'm out, but as I said i'll let you know as soon as I can.

Hi all,

I've been loitering around the multicopter forum and seen that there was going to be an fpv meet in Scotland. I've never tried fpv, but have had a hankering to try. This would be an excellent chance for me to see what equipment is worth getting and more importantly, whats not!
I'll be coming from Fife on the east coast, so if anyone is going from around there, or can get themselves to Kirkcaldy station, I'll be glad to give them a lift for an equal share in petrol costs. I wont be bringing anything to fly with me, so lots of space available in the back for any airframes that they want to bring. If anyone is interested, post here, or contact me directly at

Hi Tony - ditto - you would be very welcome to come and have a poke round my airframes and electronics etc. I have goggles and screen so you can see how things work - I also have antenna tracking and the whole system is wireless which is quite unusual.

Sounds good, thanks guys. Had the ok to take day off work (I normally work Sundays), so, weather permitting for Dukes Pass area, I'll be there. And yeah, as I said, If the person going from Aberdeen can get to Kirkcaldy station, bringing them along, wont be an issue (not sure what the train situation is like early Sunday mornings tho). Aberdeen is a bit far North for a detour from where I am. I'd be going via Dunfermline, Alloa direction.

Weather still looking hit and miss for Sunday...  this is what it looks like at the moment. Middle part of the day does not look too bad.. but think we need a check on Fri for go/no go

Hmmm, just checked Metcheck. Its generally spot on for my local area, and checking out FK8 postcode shows snow and high winds all day Sunday for Dukes pass. But, like Jumpy says, best to recheck on Friday........fingers crossed!!!!

I will have two Multi FPV frames:

Video: 5.8Ghz Video (5.740Ghz ImmersonRC Long Range)
Control: one with OpenLRS 100mw on 459Mhz and one with FrSky 80mw 2.4Ghz.

Weather still looks hit and miss and is changing by the hour... at the moment it looks dry, cold 5c,and cloudy with 10mph NNE winds.

At best you might get an inkling 24 hrs before the meet.

In the last week. Iv'e seen Geese, frozen lochs, 12 deg and sun, bees, 1 butterfly, couple of midge, a big hairy caterpillar on the heather, snowbound roads, a blizzard and 3" snow at sea level. And Prince Charlie in close proximity

Where are we actually meeting?  Jumpy's kmz file points to  the end of a track off to the west side.  Harry's spot appears to be on the north side overlooking Loch Achray and there looks to be another good carpark up a forest track on the east side between the two.

I don't want to end up in the wrong place!
