Think everyone agreed the meet on Sun was good, although the weather gods were not so kind to us.
I few others have expressed an interest, who couldnt make the first one, so to get a date in everyones diary..
2nd Scottish FPV Meeting
Date:Sun 19th May 2013
Time: 11am
Venue: North East (Caterhun Hill Fort, Near Brechin 10 miles from Montrose )
yo, jumpy!! you've gotten confused with out ramblings somewhere along the line!! I dont live in Perth!! I'm in montrose and the old airfiels is my local flying spot in montrose!!!!
As I am sure Rudeboy can confirm, the old Montrose Aerodrome is now an industrial estate (with a good air museum though). There are also playing fields used extensively by the public and to cap it all Montrose Aeromodellers fly there too. Probably not a good site for an FPV meet.
na it wouldnt be the best but there is an area I go right along the far end at kinnaber where my video from the other day was that would be OK, I just need to speak with the the land owner!! but another thing being I'm on holiday on may 12th!!!.
Ok.. moved to 19th May... Rudeboy.. might not be able to make it..
Suggestions for venue ?
Montrose? Or how about Carterthun hill forts. If you look on Google Earth, the carpark is at 56 47.040N 2 44.055W. I've only been up there once but the eastern fort was quiet. The walkers were all up the west fort.
There is also the Airlie Monument at 56 44.360N 3 1.483W although this is a bit of a climb from the road and I'm not sure of parking.

Possible location.. Stirling for the castle or monument?
I'll definately be up for a meet at any location! Stirling has alot of interesting landmarks to see from the air, dont make any mistakes if you're flying West though as the safari park is there lol dont think the lions would be pleased haha
Not looking encouraging for weather at the mo
I didn't realise that long range forecasting was that accurate ;)
..... Or have I lost a month?
AH, never noticed the MAY bit LOL
Hopefully I will be able to make this one - wont know until nearer the time for sure.
Fingers crossed!!
Still need to sort out a venue yet.. but interested parties so far..

The Hill fort looks like a great location... what does everyone else think ?
Hi all , just wanted to see if were any closer to a location for our meet, closing in on us fast :)
Scotti
Caterthun is bigger (spread over two sites) and very much in the open which means exposed.
Airlie has trees on three sides which means sheltered but above tree level the winds could be difficult.
I've marked up both on extracts from Google Maps.

I have just been 'reminded' that the 19th May is our wedding anniversary.
I will therefore be otherwise occupied on the 19th.

Bring her along? she tried fpv yet :D
I am easy on venue.. multi flying only for me.. so prob better to choose a site that suits the fixed wing people..
Simon.. I am sure you can come up with an excuse to go.. if she's put up with you for that long.. I am sure it will be fine :o
Craig
I'm thinking that the Caterthun Forts might be the better site.
Pluses : set up and fly from near the car parking; not many trees; choice of two adjacent sites, looks interesting from above
Minuses : not much car parking in the layby, looks kinda boring on Street View
You can check it out on Google Street View. You can only check out the road to Airlie on Street View.
Negotiations completed. I will be there.
How about meet at the Forts and if necessary we can move elsewhere?
Good news Simon.. hope negotiations were not too expensive..
Few people from Multi-Rotor.co.uk also coming along.. so list so far..

We never checked to see if TopGun Scotland had camped on the other side of the hill because he got lost in the mist. Well, it's Scotland, at least it wasn't raining. ;D
It was great to meet you all. I'll post some stills tomorrow. :)
Hey guys i got 300 yards from my house and got rear ended in the car, not much damage but was enough to put a downer on me, really spoilt the good mood i was in , i wanted to be up that hill in the mist haha, i'll be posting a wee video of my own flight today, glad you all enjoyed the meet though, cringing since i wasnt there, next time all, and i'll bring some soup and tea :)
Glad you had a good day out, looked a nice venue. In the end the Sat Nav's 3hr-50min estimate each way + an iffy forecast was the deciding factor for me.
I headed West across to Assynt where the weather was being more cooperative! T-shirt, 20deg at 1000ft, balmy zephyr. 2 mile hike up over huge slab rock was sweltering. My 1yr old Lab's tongue was dragging on the ground :P
Ice
Some stills from the day - frame capture from GoPro Hero with model nose left in view for some idea of perspective. Damn, was it misty at times, so no decent long distance views and rather flat colours. Still it meant the trees were not magnetic and it provided good cover for the wild haggis so we didn't bag any. ;D

Glad you had a good day out boys - shame the weather didn't play nicely.
Sorry I couldn't join you - we had a sudden storm surge on Saturday and one boat broke loose and battered the boat next to it so Sunday was a busy day for me !!!
Maybe next time - anyone fancy a trip over to the west coast - Castle Stalker - McCaigs tower - Kilchurn Castle - Bridge over the Atlantic - ???
Glad the haggis made themselves scarce - the Spaghetti trees provide great camouflage don't they?? :+ :+ :+
I'm supposed to be crewing on a boat through the Crinan Canal some time this Summer but no dates and no route yet planned. The skipper is an aeromodeller returning to the fold so I will work on him to moor or berth at Dusnstaffnage at some point on his West coast trip. :D
Cool - mates rates of course!!
