Title: Controller Choice for 700mm + Framed Multi
Post by: wgt40w on March 28, 2013, 02:16:56 PM
Apparently the Naza M is only suitable for Multis that are LESS than 650mm sized.

Apart from the Naza Wookong WKM, what other reliable, GPS equipped controllers are available and recommended for large multis ??

Arducopter!??!

Good bit of kit if you have some basic PC knowledge.

Say you were flying a multi commercially, where even-more-so you don't want it to come down on anyone's property or head -

Which would you prefer to rely on ??

The DJI stuff just simply works, and works really well wih minimal input. However the wookong stuff is bloody expansive.

That said if you are going down the commercial route nothing in that direction is cheap, would you want a £1000's worth of quad being controlled with a £150 controller?!?!?

That said the Arducopter / Ardupilot is amazing. I use both and am more than impressed and with some simple testing and setting up would be more than a capable system for pretty much anything.

Not realy given an answer there I know but I suppose it is up to personal preferrence and budgets.

My Vulcan is getting my naza and I know several people using the Naza on the 900mm Vulcans (commercial working ones as well)

the Naza with GPS will hold it  ;)

Size of frame should have little to do with the Naza IMO.

It's all feedback based. It wants to level, so it powers up the correct motors to level, if it's not leveling enough it will apply more power to affect the change. The centre plate of a multirotor will rotate in the same manner whether it's a 300mm or 900mm.

So I'm struggling to see where the limitation would be by going over 650mm?

BUT..... i suspect they may be saying this to sell you the more expensive wookong M

anyone tried the naza on a large / heavy frame ?

Nail on the head there I think.  3DJim's and Asomaro's 900mm Vulcan flies on a Naza and is smooth as you like
