Easter weekend family duties took me down to East Lothian but I managed to escape for a while and chuck the Twinstar into the air for a spot of video work. Here's some stills. And before anybody says anything the power station is now decommisioned otherwise I wouldn't have gone near it.
The harbour is Port Seton, the power station Cockenzie, the long sweeping beach Gullane, the castle Tantallon and the lump of rock in the sea is the Bass Rock.

Not too cold or windy until I got to Tantallon Castle. The blast up the cliff face near froze my fingers and the air was rather choppy. It was made worse by the fact that I had used both my large 4500mAH packs by that time so could only fit a 2300mAH pack which just wasn't heavy enough to calm the model down. It's on my Summer list now along with the Forth bridges (from a safe distance).

Actually they were ponies, but from above at that height it's kinda difficult to tell. Here's a landing approach shot along with another harbour shot for Dizzy.

Great stuff electro... my auld maw lives in Haddington. I'm looking forward to going up to visit her soon and taking something to FPV. The countryside and scenery in East Lothian is so spectacular... plus there's all the old castle ruins etc to have a reccy at. Shame the Bass Rock is out of range :laugh:

Thanks GJ. I've been to Haddington many a time but not flying.
At the weekend I also considered North Berwick but it was too busy with families rolling Easter eggs so I drove on to Berwick Law and ended up climbing it. Flying from the top would have been really tricky for fixed wing due to rocks and people - not impossible if you are used to slope soaring but not advisable if you are a flat field flier. A multicopter would be better.
Further along the coast there is Dunbar with some good opportunities for harbour/seashore video.
Then of course there's Torness power station but being nuclear there is a no fly zone around it.
Also on my "to fly" list are the Forth bridges. I haven't yet checked the maps for suitable landing areas but there should be enough on either side of the river. Also currently under construction is the new Forth crossing but that's maybe at too early a stage yet to be interesting. And finally, in the same locale is the former Royal Naval Dockyard at Rosyth where the new Royal Navy carriers are being assembled. It's a private yard now but I am not sure of flying restrictions around it.
BTW if you are thinking of going to Tantallon Castle you can only get access by paying at the gate. Being a mean, tight fisted Scotsman this idea was immediately rejected. ;D Actually the best views are not from the castle grounds but from the adjoining fields. I drove along a private road (marked in red), having first asked permission and then hopped over the wall to fly from the spot marked X. If you are not a slope flyer you will find the updraughts or downdraughts from the bay and cliffs rather tricky unless it is pretty calm. Unfortunately the best views are out over the cliffs and bay but I would advise against unless the conditions are calm or you are confident of your ability and familiar with the model.

Cheers, I know all the names so well. My sister lived in North Berwick for years. My cousins live in Dunbar,, Dalkeith but as my Granny had 11 brothers and sisters, they're all over the world as well as Scotland. I fancied asking the people at East Fortune if I could fly at the museum..I must go there every time I go home..and then there's Hailles Castle.. like I said, so many fantastic sites.
I'll have to stick the goggles on the auld Gal and give her a fly over St. Marys church, the Dovecot, The Tyne and 'Glenerochie'... ( Haddington sites)

GJ you should be aware that there is a model flying club at East Fortune and fairly close to the Museum of Flight. It would be best to liaise with them if you get permission to overfly the Museum. There are also microlights operating in the area. One of them buzzed Gullane beach whilst I was there. It was no higher than I was flying but my model wasn't in the air at the time.

I nipped over to the Caribbean this weekend for a quite video shoot. There should have been a lot more but I only discovered after a couple of flights that the GoPro battery was flat. All that way and a flat battery - what a bummer.

Did I say Caribbean? Sorry, I meant to say north east coast of Scotland - Ythan estuary. Such an easy mistake to make when the beaches and weather are so good. ;D
