Title: Prop Adapter

Hi, please could someone recommend a good source for prop adapters that run true? I'm needing adapters to fit 3.1mm motor shaft and tend to use Props with a 5mm hole. Fed up with cheap aluminium collet examples that don't run concentric from new let alone when they have a 'hard landing'

aah the age old problem....

shafts are usually 3mm or 3.17mm-1/8"

good adapters are not easy to come by in my experience,
and in the end I have started using motors with bolt on adapters.

but even then some times they have a bit of play in the fitting,
so its hard to get them centred properly too.

some small tips for the collet type are..

get rid of the dome nut and replace with a locking nut,
this will reduce the mass spinning and help vibes...

cut the motor shaft down if you havnt already... so the adapter will just touch the motor bell.
this will lower the mass closer to the bearing and help reduce wobble from the long shaft.

seems obvious, but make sure the collet tightens down square,
also the 'washer' provided always has some play against threaded part..
try get this centred when tightening, or replace with better fit one.

I have been thinking about making some myself,
so I know they are true.
but this is time and effort of finding a lathe and the stock to turn.
I did however find 'hackspace' they have workshops you can go use  ;D
so it maybe on the cards soon.

if you find a good source of adapters, that are not monkey metal and run true,
let us know :D

Thanks for that, I have more or less optimised the ones I have but hoped for something better. It sounds like I'm being over optimistic! Having anything made would probably be un-economic, as you say the way to go is with the motors and bolt on adapters. Shame!
