Title: What props on Tri for 1000kv motors
Post by: Flyboysee on May 16, 2013, 05:56:28 PM
Hi guys

As per the header, what props should I be using for best performance of my Tricopter if it has 1000kv motors and 30A esc's?

I'll probably balance up a couple of cheap one's first to allow for my training and repairing phase, then go for better props, maybe carbon?

If you could give me some links that would be great. UK suppliers best as I am edging to fly this weekend :)

Try here. Good service in my experience.

Thanks for replies!

Just had a look at Electricwingman thanks Elect!

Davey it will be on 3S, not sure if the motors are rated to 4S.

Simon is that enough lifting power on 100kv. CK says I need to get a hover at 50%. I'm such a noob at this, dangerous to myself and others :)

Is there a useful rule of thumb for prop sizes Vs KV, I have 10x4.5's on my Tri with DT750's (750KV) and have used 11x4.5's as well.  Whilst Graupner 10x5 barely got it flying full throttle.  Props confuse me

One more question guys...

3D says that Dragon Link etc will be 'sluggish' for multi's and besides I'll be flying quite close in anyway. How many channels do you need on a multi? I looked at Turnigy 9XR etc and see on eBay some nice deals going with Futaba 6EX etc. I know and like the Futaba's very well and would be happy to get one dedicated for my multi's and keep the 9C for planestyle FPV on Dragon. If I later got into more advanced multi stuff (up to say NAZA) will 6ch be enough?

It's more than just prop size v kV as you have to also consider motor power and model use. 10x4.5 would be no use on a 30W motor and neither would a 6x5.5 on a 3D model. Another factor which I have found through experiment is the difference that the make of prop has. There are noticable improvements going from an APC style prop to a genuine APC let alone two different makes of prop each with the same diameter and pitch. I have attached a slightly old but still useful guide which appeared on GiantCod a while back. You might find it useful.
