I've wondered about getting a keychain camera adapted for this - to record the FPV camera signal rather than it's own camera signal - not sure if that is possible but as it has the card slot etc already there it might be a way to go about this.

Yeah sounds like a gap in the market for such a product.

Fat Shark have the all-in-one HD camera and recorder but it is not cheap.

I think you could convert a key chain cam, as long as you can find the cameras output and jump onto it with the right signal its possible

Found this:

I bought one of these with the expectation of installing it in my ground station to automatically record/log all flights. So in the event that the model is lost I can at least see that last known position and surrounding area from the downlink video.

Unfortunately the firmware of the device is full of bugs; typical Chinese software job. Check out the "FoxTech SD recorder bug #" videos that I made to show the manufacturer the bugs. http://www.youtube.com/my_videos (http://www.youtube.com/my_videos)

By the way, the most scary thing is that on occasions the video will lock or not pass through to the output of the device. With this in mind even if another device appears to work correctly I will not risk passing the video through it. Just use a splitter and parallel it with the VTX.

I will probably buy this one for my ground station and it is small enough to go on the model too: http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/mini-dvr-2-helmet-camera.html (http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/mini-dvr-2-helmet-camera.html)  The description says "Switch it to the record position and the unit turns on and starts recording in less than 5 seconds.".
