Title: Venturi wing V Lamppost @ 50mph
Post by: Brucey on May 27, 2013, 06:37:58 PM
I was planning to go out flying early today before the wind picked up. However, after trying to upgrade the firmware on my ezUHF, which took ages, I didn't get out until late and the wind had got stronger. Still well within my limits, but annoying.
After a quick range test I began a low run across the field, a gust of wind caught me and I met a lamppost!
I did the walk of shame expecting to find foam confetti, but amazingly it was in one piece, only a winglet torn out. As I got closer I realised that both batteries were missing along with the GoPro...eek after a quick hunt I found one battery and the GoPro. I just can't find the missing battery, I think it went in the hedge, but it's really dense, maybe it will show up in winter!
Enjoy the vid!

Its got ezOSD, ezUHF, 2.4 vid, 1100kv hacker motor.
It turned out heavier than I expected at 2.5k, that's with everything including laminate and vinyl covering. But it launches easily and glides well.
I struggled to get the CoG far enough forward and needed some ballast.
Post up some pics of yours once it's built

Yeh ill post some pics of my build from start to finish . You struggled with c of g even with the 2 3300 3s ? I need to decide what size batteries to get because would rather add more battery weight than adding balancing weights to it .  I'm going to be using the ntm 1400 kv motor and turnigy trust 70amp esc , want to run it on 4s really .

Yeah, had to move the esc to the front away from the motor. What didn't help was that I wanted the motor hanging out the back so the prop was as far away from the trailing edge as possible to keep the noise down.
I've also got my GoPro in its full case up front.
The vinyl covering didn't help, surprising how much weight it added.

Ouch! Nasty.. Enjoyable to watch though

Regarding the C.G issue. You could try taking a bit out of the trailing edge at the centre section so you can get the motor further forward and so the C.G. Thats seems to be doen often  on wings I've seen on Youtbe. If taken to extremes as some do it would have a detrimental effect on the glide , but  25 mm or so shouldnt hurt too much. I dont know the construction of the Venturi but would have thought its possible to do that and still mount the motor ok?
