Yes! No time for procrastinating... pen this in your diaries!
Bring and BBQ, all day flying with possible camp over (to be confirmed), Sunday repeat!
£10 per flyer, proceeds going to the Parish Council as usual, max 16 flyers grouped into teams of two, 2 active ground stations at a time, possibly 3 grouped by frequency on a rotation basis, long flight line spanning the field - your flying partner throws you into wind (regardless of where you are sitting) and retrieves your plane on landing.
Assuming an average of 15 minutes per flight, everyone should get to fly at least once every hour and 15 minutes or so, counting in some set up time. The live feed will move from GS to GS as we go and be fed through to a projector in the club house where while you're not flying you can chill out with other pilots and watch the action, charge your batts, organise your lunch, go shopping, fly passenger etc.
For those coming please make your VTX's accessible to be able to change frequencies on 2.4 and 5.8, Boscam / Immersion / other.
Richard
In the diary!!! :D
I'll get my bum down South for this one Rich, 3 months and counting :)
Woohoo! count me in :D
The formalities will sound painful but I have to agree its necessary to keep the event safe when there's so many eager pilots :D
Maybe we could group people and fly in three's with double channel spacing.. I'm even happy to go standard channel spacing :)
Also I'd like to make a suggestion.. how about an 'emergency plan' I.e. what do we do in the event of losing a plane?
Saves the headless chicken approach and potentially upsetting local farmers.
Dammit, would put it in the diary, but the diary tells me I'm in Florida that day waiting to get on a plane to fly back :'(
Much sadness
As always I cant confirm this far ahead, but if im alive, well and able, ill be there. ;D

Steve that's great news! Now we just need to work on Ian and some more Northern compatriots!
Yeah count me in! I think a bit of organization on the video frequencies would be a good idea. The Mad Dog approach of switch off if anyone screams works well up to a point but it gets tedious especially when mixing boscam and immersion frequencies as I think you get into a serious mix with different channels shitting on each other.
I've got both boscam and immersion 5.8ghz, I'm thinking I might set up a test rig at home and do a channel interoperability chart.
Or is that a waste of time and can we work this out simply by looking at the channel numbers and frequency spacing:?

If you are prepared to do that and have the time it would be very valuable. That way if everyone has access to their dips it would be quick to set up for every flight. Very good call Mr Dogz!
I'll be there. Got to pick my chair up.
Cheers, Mark

It makes things more fun :D Ratty was flying blind for about 45 seconds on Saturday lol
I wouldn't mind attending this one. Looks like you guys had a ball at MD3.
I'll be there with bells on, not literally, though I do take requests!
This is unless work gets in the way... AGAIN!
Count me & Charlie in & I'll be more prepared for this one!
I cannot believe you manage to choose weekends I'm working!
He told me that he does it on purpose.
Shirley you can wrangle a day off with 3 months notice??

Jim.
I done this years ago with my local flying club down on the coast, had a massive tent and lots of beer, the flying got slightly out of hand when the beers started flowing but great fun
Hi guys!
This is excellent news with all the excitement building off the back of 3, and for the likes of Ian and Steve, Spookfish, Randall, Marklincs etc coming I am just so stoked and looking forward to it, not discounting our regulars and new pilots we met who attended the last one.
I'm not going to say much and won't be pressed on it, but the next meet will be a lot different, with better organisation allowing a lot of fly time for more pilots - just need to work out the final details :)
Also, very importantly, the date is subject to change by circumstances I have no control over, but it will be within a 14 day period either before or after so get the wives happy, start doing regular family days, gardening and mowing so you can attend guilt free what will no doubt be the best Mad Dogs ever!
I will meet the chairperson of the committee next week and look at the availability of the venue then post up the date here. I'll also discuss sleep over in the club house and camping on the field - I'm sure I can swing it, unless there's some bylaw or other preventing us in which case I will find suitable budget accommodation.
Richard
Let me know when you need payment will send you some monies. Fingers crossed for a little less wind this time round.
I highly doubt I'll be staying for both days so accommodation isn't an issue for me. Looking forward to this one.
Hi Guys!
This thread has gone a little quiet while I've been looking at the final dates with the Parish Council, so here it is, official date and the count down begins...
14 September 2013
Camping will be available on the 'other' side of the club house and will cost an additional £10 per pitch for the Friday and Saturday night. Hot showers are available in the Club House. As for the meet itself, we will be donating as usual £10 per flyer to the council, so £20 if you're camping and a tenner if you're flying. Mad Dogs is open from Friday night to Sunday night.
Food arrangements : Bugger all, I'll be flying :)
Flying Arrangements : We can have 10 active ground stations for an enjoyable meet. If interest goes beyond 10, I'd like to suggest we then group into teams of two pilots and fly alternate sorties. That will still allow for many flights - as long as we S P R E A D O U T!
I have some competition and challenge ideas I'll post up when the weather improves.
Let's start with who's coming...? RSVP by Paypal when you can!
count me in - not sure if i'll be flying though
Im In !!!
Jim.
Me. The idea of flying in twos and taking turns is great. This will give everyone else the excuse to watch as well. I like riding passenger almost as much as flying.
yep! I'm in.
Im up for the 14th. Looking forward to it.

To confirm your place for the weekend of 14 September please confirm on this thread and pay your tenner into Paypal :
[email protected]We'll discuss and handle the camping later. Mr Pickett has agreed to camping and is charging a tenner on behalf of the committee so that if / when complaints come in, we have permission and the sports grounds are making some income. The club house will be available for cooking, refreshments and hot showers. Those camping please 'leave no trace' after breaking down. Camping is agreed for Friday and Saturday night.
As always, if the weather is bad on the Saturday, we have the option or Sunday. Payments refunded in the event of cancellation due to weather, so hold thumbs for a bright day with no wind :)
I will update the thread as and when. Please write your forum name on your payment so I can match it up.
Cheers
Richard
I read on shoutbox that this is going to be open to the general public?
Bad idea IMO, way too much expensive gear to have kids running around and it's nice to be able to leave your gear knowing it isn't going to get nicked. Imagine they step on your quad or something as well?
It will work If the flight line is a no go area for spectators but then there isn't much to see lol
if you take the size of the village into account i'd be surprised if more than 5 ppl show up
I think that's sensible to allow members of the unwashed public to come and have a gander, after all they are allowing us use of their cricket ground which is public space.
And my heart has been warmed by Westerns Skysurfer(?) turning up after 9 months fending for itself in a ditch and returned to the fold by a member of the local populace.
I think there's more risk of one of us picking up something accidentally and taking it home than some thieving Oxfordonian with a black and white stripey jumper and a black face mask with a swag bag over his shoulder.
I agree the boundary though for the flight line and I think we will also use one of the changing rooms where we can charge LiPos and do work on planes which probably won't be the main room as it has previously been.
Now I've said all those kind words, i'll get the shirt stolen from my back and my wallet rinsed dry by said locals whilst my car will be on fire on a stack of bricks!!!!
Watch out for that dodgy Plingbot , he tried to steal my iTelemetry cable ;)

Based on past experience, people will be wanting to see what goes on at the flight line, otherwise what's the point in going?
My main concern is Little Jonny 5 year old who goes to see the toy planes with his mum and dad... then starts running around ££££ worth of gear, picking up goggles, accidentally wobbling into the quads etc. How peed off would you be for instance if little Jonny accidentally stepped on your AXN and snapped a wing or something while you were gabbing to his dad?
Not saying it's a particularly bad thing like I'm some sort of anti-social old git (arguable!) but to be honest... nothing good comes of allowing people to mingle with high-value stuff in public.
There's a reason why at most car shows for example, the actual valuable stuff is cordoned off.
Maybe you could have a cordoned off section for the flight line, but have a viewing area very near with a ground station so the passing public can view the action.
If love to commit to attending this, but I need to check the work situation nearer the time.
Yep ... I'm in, about time i learned something from you elders ;D . ... and someone can show me how to fly a plank!!

there might be a simple answer Steve, bring a fold up table. I plan on doing that after seeing Gav do the same and Ratty too. Sure little jonny can still wobble into the table but hopefully less likely to stand on anything.
We have kids walking round our stuff all the time at the local club. Nothing has be trod on yet. The parents are usually over paranoid of them breaking something.
Now THAT is a plan.

You owe me a beer! :)
Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. One thing about this meet is I'd like to fly and hassle less about the minute by minute organising.
That leaves us two choices:
1. Organise some events mixed in, or on Day 2 for the die hard all weekend flyers?
2. Keep it 'free fly' and do as before, just spreading out a lot more to maintain frequency and jamming separation?
What I would like to do right now is cut off at 15 confirmed flyers, and then decide amongst us that are confirmed all the above, as well as other suggestions that may come in. I have drafted a rough outline for some events such as a 5km round trip passing certain markers, a 10km round trip on the same basis, speed trials over say a 1km return all adjudicated on ground station footage. Static events could be a targeted parachute drop and spot landing.
This will mean someone, probably two (???) will to have to sacrifice their own flying to keep things organised, and rely on everyone's full co-operation during these events and not fly randomly at the same time. I can't see much enthusiasm for that!
Since we all like a lot of stick time I honestly can't see how this will work, or if the various challenges will even be fun to do (while waiting your turn too of course) and whether they are not just going to cause a lot of planes to go missing??? Lots to think and chat about.
I would say if we do this, we should make Saturday the normal meet, and reserve the Sunday for all the organised stuff, in which case I'd be happy to get involved.
So please agree with me (in the most democratic way possible of course, that's an order!) that we close off with 15, really work on our separation and if there is a lot more interest then revert to plan B which means we have a maximum of 10 active ground stations at a time, manned by two people who alternate their flying. That will be more than manageable, make for a day of lots of flying and socialising and having the usual rip roaring time!
The village has totally warmed up to this event and people have expressed a wish to 'pop in' and enjoy some passenger flights over the fields and village. My main man Dave Pickett was sat down with goggles on and he really enjoyed it immensely, so it would be nice if we could invite onlookers to 'have a look' if they are interested. Obviously we'll still need to stay away from the Manor House and Church (except me :) ) I will then just put up a small notice in the pub saying 'Come and have a look!'. The village is generally very positive about my / our flying and I have not received any complaints wrt privacy and all that crap. Our good conduct of course will ensure this is the spirit moving forward as the event repeats again and gain.
I've received suggestions from Krikey and CK (both decorated Mad Dogs vets) that we should clear the open space in the club house for beers and chilling and putting up a screen (this time!) for live video feeds, and use the kitchen area for food prep, serving and drinks and use the locker rooms for charging. I will arrange power extension leads to each and place tables there. I reckon that's a fantastic plan - thanks for the suggestions!
As to food. Yes, I enjoyed the barbie last time. No, I don't really want to do it again :)
That said, there is no reason why we can't have a few fires going and flame up your favourite dead animal. Here again, an opportunity to chat this to death and maybe come up with an idea that works for everyone.
As you already know, camping has been agreed, so that means night flying is on! Are there any hippies out there who actually know what size moon we'll have on the night and any Shamans who want to predict the weather? :)
Can anyone suggest a way to make a cheap flag pole with a flag or material covering that will work as a ground station marker and maybe double up as a windsock? We'll need 10 of them! I love what Angelos and Yogs did at Bounce, but don't really want to steal their idea, unless someone is mates with them and just borrows their great markers.
Alright, that's already a lot of reading!
Richard

Nobody, just thought about it in depth and decided against coming - thought I'd update the list 3 months in advance since you marked everyone as paid and attending. Just think I'd prefer more "intimate" meets like Mam Tor for instance, so at least now someone else can fit on the list.

Hey Rich, can we decided about camping closer to the date please?
Yes I am a Moon Shaman.
I have consulted the spirits and they have advised me that this is a very special time for moon worship.
Between September the 14th and 15th we celebrate Perigee. The moon is at it's closest point towards the earth. The moon will rise at 4:19PM and set at 00:19AM on the 14th. The high point will be at 8:54PM. It will not be full but will be a waxing gibbous moon.
It will be dark by 8:30pm so would be a perfect time to do some night flying.

Attention! Attention! Attention!
Some points of business...
1. There are now 11 people booked and paid. I know for sure 3DJim is in, and hoping for Ratty and Brucey. Guys will you confirm when you get a chance? That will mean we are at 14 flyers and so... the meet is closed!
2. Since we always have serious traffic issues I'd like to make a binding suggestion that we hook up with flying partners. That way assuming we have all 14 on board, we fly in 7 teams and have a maximum of 2 teams in the air at once. That way, assuming flights are in the region of 20 minutes each, there will be lots of time for chilling, eating, drinking and flying passenger in the club house on a big screen. (Kindly provided by Krikey)
3. The meet will cover Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will be a free fly FPV day organised as above and Sunday will be a day of flying and some challenges and competitions. Krikey and CurryKitten will be arranging these so please state your interest and say if you'll be camping over.
4. About camping: Tents can be pitched around the side of the Club House and a donation of £10 to the community chest is asked. There are barbie facilities on site, as well as showers (bring flip flops or get jockstrap itch on toe disease for life). Anyone wanting to rather bring a stretcher and make a dorm in the main area can also do so. This means that those die hard's who'd be staying over may wish to do a night flight with me? I'll come up with some LED and illumination gear to make it safe... let's talk about it, get ideas flowing and make a list of things to bring. For now all I have to say on the matter is Dogzilla, get yourself a strobe-on from firstpersonview (for the plane) so we can do a chase geezer :) Invitation to everyone of course, but I don't do dusk, I do proper dark :)
Right, I hope my 'binding suggestion' in point 2 doesn't come across as too North Korean, and I hope also that my volunteering CK and Krikey in point 3 is okay?
Right, it's just less than a month to go!
Fire Away!
Nice one Rich looking forward to it.
In terms of night flying.... I'm ready for it mate, my Skywalker has got LED's all round, strobes too. You could be registered blind and still see this thing in the air.
I'm gonna see if I can buy a bunch of bike lights off ebay china. I'm thinking a dozen cheapo flashers on the ground would do wonders for marking the landing strip from the air.
Got a few things on the go, hopefully have my Z60 wing ready in time. Hopefully have a 1.3ghz frequency setup so no more interference... I'll be able to keep up with your 2.4ghz system now.
I'm going to try and convince Gemma into camping :D

Excellent man! I'm really looking forward to it! So I take it you'll camp over then? My experience with Night FPV is to have a bit of led on the plane just for launching then it's in the goggles. As to some ground lights, whatever you bring will be cool - but really all that is needed is a strobe on the GS (which I've seen at over a kilometre) and maybe RTL... the area will be dark. What's the moon doing oh Shaman?
I have surgery scheduled for Aug/Sept, so as soon as I know I will let you know buddy. ;D

Hi Davey
There is a very nice looking Barbie now at the field, basically a huge modified bin.
I'm okay with putting on the fire and we all then cook our bring and barbie food on it, but this time I'd like to enjoy the flying more, so not totally keen on cooking and serving (as much as I enjoyed it last time).
If anyone is keen to do this let me know. Also, the South African shop is up the road in Slough so boerewors can once again be ordered and be delivered fresh the day before.
I suggest then we bring our own beers, cooldrinks etc and I'll make sure there is the usual tea and coffee etc.
What do we all think? Time is running out :)
Richard

This is my first post, so hello everyone :)
I'm a complete noob but I quite like to start socialising with the community. I'm flying octocopter, but not FPV yet (my gear should arrive this week). I probably would not be in enough competence to fly on the event yet. I'm not registered with BFMA and don't have insurance yet (I have a BIG garden). I don't want to commit to the event and take someone else spot not knowing for sure that I will be able to sort out everything on time.
Having said that, would you have a non-flying spot left? I probably would come for large part of Saturday and BBQ but not stay overnight. Would the 10gbp fee apply in such case?
Thanks, Marcin

Marcin, you are most welcome mate - and it's very very good to know you're not a BMFA member - you should keep it that way IMO :) We are a highly addicted breed of FPV enthusiasts who get together a couple of times a year for this meet up, which is very informal and a great place to meet pilots, check out their machines and what not.
Please come along, it's family friendly - bring something to put on the barbie and your favourite drink and come enjoy the day with us!
Use the post code OX44 7JR - that will get you very close, then follow the planes, or look for the village playing fields.

I'm starting to get a little bit excited now.. is that sad? We even got the tent out and set it up to check its ok :D
Its with regret that I'm not going to be able to make it on the 14th-15th. I've obviously make a boo boo as I had the date in my calendar as the 7th and 8th and camping with my son and the Cubs on 13th-15th.
I know the date for MD4 was changed a while ago but I've only just realised it clashes.
So that means one more space for someone who wishes to go flying.

Being BBQ food or we'll order a delivery / find a kebab van :D

That's awful news, especially since you're a founding member!
You're a good man Neil by keeping to your commitments with your children. Good on ya! We will have to make a documentary then.
Davey, you're like me mate, very very excited and as long as we have good weather, it will be awesome as usual.
Randall, I thought you were already coming? Well, very glad that's settled then.
My excitement peaked again today when I did a little hill survey, making plans for a big flight on the day :)
Bring it on!
Yea i am coming 100% ! Always have been just checking i still have a room in dave's mansion tent. There must be a local indian that delivers :-D
Rich I'm a big kid lol even Gemma is excited :D
I have convinced my other half to come for the evening but im not convinced she is exited lol. Im sure she will enjoy once the night sets in.
Hi All
Does anyone have one of those GSM plane finders lying about that you can call to get co-ordinates if lost? I'm keen to do a bit of a long flight on the day and could use the peace of mind :) I'll gladly replace it if lost.
Or, anyone have a link of one that is reasonably priced and actually works?
Richard
Rich, things are looking like I will make it. I will make a call tomorrow and confirm.
I have a GSM tracker that I will bring along for you to use. Think the sim even still has some credit.
Do you know where Chinnor hill is? I plan on flying there soon.
Also, you might recognise this:

Very good to hear from you Ratty, and over the moon that you will more than likely be coming - cool!
That's a great picture of the Church here in Haseley? Was that taken from a quad?
As to Chinnor Hill, I'm not sure - all the hills in that area are pretty much forests. Have a look on my YT channel - just did a 10k flight from Gt Haseley to Christmas Common (also on the Chiltern Hills in line with Chinnor, but further up near the M40 and Stokenchurch).
That's why I'm keen to use a tracker, so with thanks, yeah I'm keen to chuck yours in my plane and as always, if I break it / lose it, I'll buy it :)
Looking forward man!
Richard
Think I can make it ( finally) On the Sunday so have paid. Hope I'm not to late.
See you all soon. If I can't fly I'll come along for a chin wag & advice.
Cheers, Mark
Well the hospital lady didn't answer the damn phone today, so ill try again tomorrow.
That is St Marys church in Thame. A still from the video from hex with brushless gimbal.
I know a place up on Chinnor hill where there is a big clearing amongst the trees, with a great view. Ill check out your vid, will prob recognise some places. :D
Late entry! Count me in ;)

Mad Dogs now officially closed.
Looking forward to it guys!
@Flyboysee:
Thanks for your PM, I can't send PM's yet so I can't reply :/
I will see you guys on 14th! Good luck with all preparations!
if I can, I'll make up some containers for the quad lifting games and pass them on to CurryKitten. they'll only be baked bean tins with a wire handle but that'll do the trick.
I made one at home, along with a little grappling hook thingy to attach to a quad. Remains untested at the moment though.
You need a 12v electro magnet activated on a TX switch ;)
woop woop. Not long to go now! Fingers crossed we get some nice weather!
Eish! I crashed the Penguin yesterday so not sure if Ill be able to get a plane in the air on time.
Anyone know of any Penguin fuses available anywhere? I have all the wings and tail bits x 2 so must get a fuse. That, or O just get the Tricopter ready and fly 5.8 and be the Barbie man again :)
In future ai will not fly anything for two weeks ahead of Mad Dogs - this is the 2nd time now :)
So to those I've conspired long flights with, sorry I :censored: up again.

Richard, you can borrow my SW if you wish and install dragon link Etc. it's in need of an outing and as I won't be flying that weekend it makes some sense plus I can take some of the glory as it would be my SW doing the 10k.
I've got a flying wing airframe you can have for free rich :)
Bummer Rich! Real sorry to hear that.
Cheers, Mark
Here's a pic of the wing if you want it :)
I can provide some EPP off-cuts to blank out any holes you don't want to use.
I've got acres of laminate too so I can chuck in a few meters.
Also I've got a motor + mount and ESC that you could have for a few squidlies if you were interested :)
Like I said Rich your welcome to fly the mentor at dogs :)
Jim.
Thanks for all the condolences and kind offers guys, I'm seriously moved!
I have a HUGE two weeks ahead of me with lots of stress so I'll sleep on it and decide what I'm going to do about this. I'm not really up to building anything as I have the Tri to complete. More than likely I'll try and get a fuse for the Penguin as it will be the quickest route to success.
Thanks Neil, Davey and Jim! Means a helluva lot! And to everyone for their kind words and support as always!
Richard
Ill get you flying a wing even if it kills me :D
I'm loving my Venturi.
So here's something I'll be testing this week between packing boxes. no expense spared and using high quality materials only found during the build of the space shuttle or Typhoon Eurofighter.

Yep, licked clean by the dogs then by our children...

Richard

Rich,
I'm afraid I'm going to have to drop out of next week. Moving over to Belgium hasn't been as smooth as I'd hoped and so at the moment I have nothing flyable and no workshop set up to fix stuff. On top of that I don't have a car at the moment as I'm in a gap between selling the RHD car and buying a LHD one.
Sorry to miss it; if there's a December one things will all be sorted by then and you've definately not seen the last of me, but unfortunately getting to you this time has become a logistical nightmare.
Please keep my £10 to help cover some of your own costs, which I'm sure are always significantly more than the figure you charge us for the field rental.
I shall return :o
Ah Dave, that's a real pity, but understood and respected mate. I'm considering a move to the next village and it's keeping me up at night :)
Watch out for the vids Dave and stay in touch, hopefully I'll be nagging you for a trip to Belgie - I'm there on business usually once or twice a year in Antwerp.
Have you scouted out any good FPV spots? I flew at Oostende once, was nice on the beach.
Take care, stay in touch and thanks for the tenner, it will be used well!
Richard
Mate, I gotta pass on this meet too bud.
I got a two day job at the goodwood revival so can't not do it - sorry.
So who's going to go out and do the sunshine dance?? The weather isn't looking too promising :-X
From what I can see Saturday has wind at 5mph with a 40% chance of rain, Sunday is sunny, but the wind picks up. We've always had reasonable weather, lets hope it's stable...
We flew last Mad Dogs in some windy weather, it was around 15-20mph if I recall and it was stable. Hope the weather is good guys.
Its the sun light I crave :) low light = rubbish videos and a cold night in a tent
I hope it does not pi55 it down rwally looking forward to this meet
Come guys, have faith - "Build it and they will come!" and all that!
If we suffer, we suffer together :)
In MD tradition, it's not always IDEAL, but we've always had a great time and this weekend will be no different.
I can second this. I've always enjoyed each event as its an ideal opportunity to also crib ideas off of fellow flyers too. The local pub which is only 5 mins walk away does some great nosh I believe and is partial to serving the odd pint.
PUB you say? :D is the cricket club navigable when intoxicated? :D

Hi Guys
I'm thinking that due to the unpredictable weather we should maybe consider cancelling. Would everyone please look at the weather forecast sources and come back with suggestions. Saturday has now turned to rain, yet on BBC Weather Sunday shows sun, but the radio forecast for sunday was for mega atrocious weather so I'm confused. Yesterday said rain and it was a good (ish) day...
Please let me have your feedback ASAP and let's decide.
Regardless, I will be in the village on the weekend and as always I'm very keen to fly, so even if the meet is cancelled you're welcome to come down for the day and have a fly and shindig with me /us.
Feedback and suggestions please.
Richard
Nooooooooooooooooooooo :o
How about we carry on as normal and if all else fails a gang of us could head to a local pub for some grub early evening? :)
I'm a little on the fence. The forecast BBC breakfast gave earlier was not too bad on Saturday, with horrible weather on Sunday. But the BBC weather website now gives light rain in the morning for OX44 with it clearing around 10ish on Saturday, but the winds picking up as the day goes on. I think I'm good for Saturday unless I get up to drive over and it's literally pissing it down.
Met check is saying rain until lunch, i wasnt going to show until 1 so it works for me still lol
You do realise if you cancel it will be bright sunshine and 3mph winds.
Damn right Steve!
I've had a chat to Hase and we'll both be there, building and repairing planes inside if that's all we can do so come along chaps - it won't be the usual 'organised' thing that it is, and as Steve says, weather will ironically probably be good :)
Looks like the later in the day the better it is. 4pm the wind Buggers off and its just overcast.
Another date would enable me to attend if it's not looking too clever
I'm pretty sure camping is off the menu, but I'm well over for some evening pub'age after flying?
The forecast is saying that it might clear up in the afternoon with very good visibility. Personally I don't mind as long as it's not raining and the wind is under 20mph.... If we get a clear night I'm gonna be up there :)
I've got myself a 2000 lumen flashing 'beacon' just for a laugh, wonder how far away I can fly and still see it on screen :)
OFFICIAL MAD DOGS NOTAM
Sorry all, this morning I was in a despondent mood, and not just co's Ian pulled out :)
Now that I have modified my outlook on all things flying, I agree with Davey, Randall, Hase, Brucey etc that the show must go on, but with a caveat...
I will have a chat with the committee chap and let him know it's a potential wash out, but that we'd still like to use it just for tea and pee and that we will set a new date for the actual Mad Dogs Meet.
So, that means this is not MD4, but more like MD3 and a 1/2 and that all who come are welcome.
As to the tenner you've all paid - PM me for a refund, or ask for it to say in the kitty for the next one.
Great idea to support the pub if the flying stops!
I hope to see you tomorrow anyway!
Richard
I'm coming buddy and even if I don't fly keep the tenner :)
I will pop along keep the tenner for next time :)

Davey was that you that buzzed us an inch above our heads? Can't wait to see the footage...video processing still it seems.
Didn't get to say hello before you left, next time :)
Yeah sorry buddy :D it wasn't intentional I can assure you :) but the resulting footage is awesome!
haha no worries man, totally delayed reaction on my part, half my brain was screaming at me to duck to avoid decapitation and the other half was saying stay calm man you have a plane to fly!!
This is all I got to share now but have some GoPro stuff to edit for later.
Skies cleared up and the wind dropped, conditions were perfect for an evening flight :)
Massive thanks to Rich for organising this and for being my virtual wingman riding passenger and aiming my patch!
Nice video Davey, looks like you had a ball, looking forward to coming to the next one :)
The trouble with less people at the meet, is that your statistically more likely to be hit by DaveyLC. When I saw his wing going towards FBS/Dog's heads, it looked like some sort of decapitation attack was taking place :D
My ground station got a bit broken by that "landing" at the end of the video, but it glued back, and it was seriously funny :D
I was following the white perimeter line that you were following with the quad and flying over us :D I got a bit too slow and lost altitude (oopsy) :D interestingly though even if I didn't pull up FBS and Dogzilla still had about a foot of freedom :D
Well done everyone! We made lemonade out of what we were dealt weather wise and it was a great, small meet.
Excellent flying as well and looking forward to seeing more of the vids. Nice one Davey - we definitely had a delayed reaction to that flypass - maybe like 1000m/s :)
I was still building and getting things ready through the day and had a good test of the Tricopter, but unfortunately not FPV'd - just a very good camera stab test and as to the Penguin, I ran out of battery on a tour flight with Dogzilla and had the misfortune of landing on a barbed wire fence, but the plane is perfect. I'll just have to rename it 'Scarface!'
Anyway thanks again for all coming and making it an excellent day!
Richard
Here is the Vid of the Kites from the Day
Flying with Kites (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QO3uAw_7umw#)
Not had time to edit up a nice vid, plus my gopro decided not to record our steam up. So these are from the groundstation recordings.
Anyway, first vid is from the venturi including chasing Dave.
Second vid is from the falcon which has my touch and go and chasing randall as he left in his car.

Nice videos guys, was a fun afternoon, even tho I did arrive late, leave early and leave all my batteries at home. :P
Thanks again for organising it Rich, and nice to meet everyone.
Im just editing a quick vide of the two short flights I had, will be up soon and ill post it here.

Looking tidy buddy! :)
Falcon looked like an awesome flyer, real nice and smooth. Might throw away my Caprinharse and get one of those instead.
The Caipirinha could have been a decent wing if it was about 100mm larger and was optimised for a 3s setup.
And if the motor mount wasn't made of butter-wood. Fukin thin has broken almost every time I landed.
I'm seriously considering looking into getting my prototype wing mass produced.. I suppose ideally I should let a few others fly it first because I'm over the moon with it as a low and fast FPV platform.
DaveyLC: ill be a test pilot for it :) Loving my VenturiFPV and now considering the smaller Falcon.
My falcon has been performing great, I'm sure the guys at the weekend will agree!
Rob, the new falcon looks great, but my personal preference is to have the gopro in its case and to have a separate flight cam, I don't trust the gopro!
I'd agree with Brucey here. My GoPro hero silver 3 is temperamental. What I have found is that I should almost always plug in the USB lead for the Tx prior to turning on the GoPro, otherwise it almost always crashes the goPro.
On the Venturi, I did away with the nice goPro box and made up my own 3mm ply shelf (for want of a better expression), then I could mount the gopro in its waterproof case and put a flight cam along side.
Whilst nobody was watching (except Brucey), I went off and stuffed my little Wing Wing into the dirt

Brucey,
Yes the falcon will have a separate FPV cam bracket, i don't like the Gopro feed either.
Just gotta do some more flight testing and jig building and we will be there.
kit price estimate £39.00, GoPro & Non GoPro editions.
All the best Rob

Oh shame Wayne! Vent's are indicated I think...? Noticed when Brucey does low passes he throttles back to mid point.
Rob, sounds good, look forward to seeing the final cut.
Wayne, that hit the ground hard, but left hardly any damage! It was very turbulent that morning.
Rich, I do most my flying at around half throttle, I rarely hit full throttle, less chance of something going pop! Plus at a few feet of the deck it's plenty fast enough for me!
Ouch :(
Did a control surface come away in the turbulence ?
