Title: My first DJI Prop failure!
Post by: DaveyLC on June 06, 2013, 07:24:49 PM
I had a prop randomly snap in two mid flight..  I imagine its the one I caught on a log while FPV'ing in the woods a week or so back :D

I'm pretty damn impressed with the fact that the Naza seemed to handle it and the Quad landed up-right!

NAZA w/GPS equip DJI F450 - Standard prop failure and impressive landing by Naza. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edhino40Gm4#ws)

8045 (8x4.5).

I wonder if half the prop had enough thrust to keep the thing upright instead of tumbling out the air? I thought a a 3 motor quad is an out of control spinning death machine.

I'd imagine it was still creating some lift also I think the new firmware must be clever enough to know that if one motor is flat out (the one with the broken prop) and its still rolling/pitching towards that arm then it needs to slow the other motors..

Impressive it came down upright.  Ive had a prop snap in flight but from pulling too many death dives and loops one ofter the other lol. that quad had a kk board and it had no chance of coming down safely with half a prop. And bent up two arms and bust the frame plates.

Have to say the 1038's seem a lot tougher that the old 10's i do wonder if the graupners are stronger ? However i dont like the way they cut my flight times down
