Title: A few more videos from Mad Dogs 3
Post by: CurryKitten on June 07, 2013, 10:37:02 AM
I did a little bit of external recording on the day, which FBS has for his epic Mad Dogs highlight video (when he gets round to the editing), so these are a few vids from my flying things.  First is some general flying around (although having no ground recording killed me on my Bixler - as for most flights I had no recording, but I got some stuff with the 808 fully charged)

This second one I thought might be of interest for people, it shows the potential problem when in close proximity to other 5.8Ghz VTX's even when on different channels.  It's easy for your receiver to get swamped.

Great video showing the 5.8ghz interference.

I think next time much more physical separation is needed. If you are turning on a 600mw vtx within 2 meters of another flyer who is 1-2km out it's no wonder his vrx gets swamped out.

Also a good RTH system makes these meets a whole lot less stressful, I had several long periods without video where it could have gone very wrong had I not had a stabilised plane.

That interference is pretty bad, is that on an adjacent channel too? What TX/RX are you using Gav?

I only had a tiny, hardly noticeable glitch when I was about 800m out and someone else fired up their 100mW TX on the SAME channel

I'd guess the interference was from someone using a different channel set to yourself and probably only offset by a few KHz from yourself.

Yeah interesting to see 5.8 ghosting. Remember my 2.4 link, totally un flyable with FBS on the ground and me circling above

Yep, I have no idea if that's 2.4 being different or the slightly strange channels you guys were on.  For example in Richards goggles and his internal rx, I couldn't pick your signal up at all.  I don't know if that's because there's a little Boscam/Immersion overlap and that was the channel he was on.  It did completely wipe it out though, just a black screen for most of the time.

After I got home, I studied my channels and dip switch settings and produced a little printout. So I'm the field I now know exactly what channel, freq and switch setting, instead of the poke and hope method!

Nice vid clips Wayne.  You definitely made the absolute most out of the weekend and your fpv gear.  Well done, full marks.  Spiffing job.

Flew quite well to say it had no antenna on the rx - was loving watching you go through the RVOSD menus, that thing is in a class of it's own
